UnmessDTS, DTS version25, 3dsMax Exporting

by TheGasMan · in Technical Issues · 08/18/2009 (10:18 pm) · 4 replies

If I try to unmess a DTS player that is DTS version25, UnmessDTS crashes.
If I recompile the exporter for Version24 and export the same model. UnmessDTS will process it without an issue.

Stick with me on this..

I understand that T3D prefers Version26, which I assume GG will support with their own exporters or at least include source for us to compile. But until then, we Max2010 users would like an exporter to use...and this leads me to my point:

- Should I compile the exporter for Version24 so that DTS models can be "unmessed" or does Version25 contain some sort of glorious change that should be used ? Please keep in mind that My DTS models that are exported don't appear to need to be "unmessed" but if unmessed, the filesize is decreased.(I would release a version 24 and a version 25 exporter if this was ideal..but that rests upon what Version25 brings to the DTS table.)

So here are my other questions:
- What does Version25 bring to the DTS format ?
- What does Unmess.dts do besides fixing the multires scenario ?

I've read that the Version25 change is related to 'lightmaps'..not sure if any exporters support it. In fact, I am not sure of many things about all of this right now...it is quite murky...any info would help.

Thx

I know this seems a bit impatient of me to post again but...here goes:
For now, since I can't expect anyone to rush me an answer on any of this..I will plan to release a version 24 so it can be used for TGE/TGEA and T3D.

HOWEVER, if anyone can answer this within the next year or so, brilliant.
thx.

lol.. its odd huh, seems gg don't care about getting content into their
latest engine :/

Anyhoo, I would be interested in testing your 2010 compile, re: not needing
unmess for fixing multires lod issues.

My compile definitely needs unmess, otherwise the model shows max detail
at all ranges (no lod)

Are you planning on sharing any code changes you make in the exporter ?

Cheers,

I will share anything I do to it. ..I wish people took more care to make notes or archive more materials in a publicly accessible area...but then again, perhaps there was too much Garble to wade through ? I guess we may never know. ..ah well, life can continue anyways...I guess :P.

- I have a bit more reg. work to do and then I am going to test your exporter against mine to see where my changes actually take me. I would hate to release it and have issues arise because I didn't test it fully.

// 'GG and the content into engine': ..it seems the community has been pulling them out of that situation for years.

Noticed something I missed before:
Quote:My compile definitely needs unmess, otherwise the model shows max detail

That is interesting, because my exporter shows LOD and deforms it properly before using Unmessdts....however, when I run it through the UnmessDTS, it still shrinks the filesize. Also, My pre-unmessed DTS players crash showtool pro...so something appears to be sort of right and other things must be wrong still.

[sarcasm] :/ ...Glad there is so much info. on this...[/sarcasm]
