Modeling programs

I know everyone has there own opinion on modeling programs. What program would you suggest. I have tired truespace 7.6 and tried blender none of them have a dts export/import support. I know blender has a pluggin but i think blender is pretty complicated to learn. I was looking for something to model, texture, animate and create particles. It doesnt need to be all in same program all though that would make it easier.
ps. they support dts formats would be nice:)

If you can afford $35, you might want to have a look at MilkShape - there's a 30-day demo you can download to give it a spin.

Well, if you can't afford $99 for Houdini, then obviously $hundreds for 3ds, Lightwave, Maya, etc. is out of the question. The only decent free modelers I'm aware of are the ones you've already tried - TrueSpace and Blender. If you can afford $35, you might want to have a look at MilkShape - there's a 30-day demo you can download to give it a spin.

Houdini is an incredible program and will do all of the items in your requested list. There are around 50-60 free tutorials to get quickly up to speed including help on using the DTS Exporter that comes with Houdini Indie.
I do realize that $100 is a lot on a fixed budget. But if you can swing it, it is well worth the money.

@Kevin: I don't understand what "they upgraded the software so my license expired" means. That is, if you can't afford the upgrade, why couldn't you simply keep using the version you've already paid for? That shouldn't stop working simply because there is a new version available.

Get Ultimate Unwrap. It has a .dts exporter that you can use with Truespace. Though problems I've had with TrueSpace models is that they are rotated 90 degrees incorrectly!

Long time to reply to shermans statement. I saved up for a new pc. I went to download the program. they upgraded my link as well with the newer version. So either way i have to buy a new liscence to even download Houdini.

I like Softimage XSI and Modo I like modleing in modo better but as modo cant rig characters yet I have to use XSI. There next update though they going to add it so can't wait to see what they do in that area as there program is real easy to use and fun.

DTS is a proprietary format invented for Tribes and only used by Torque engines. You won't find an app that can export it without an exporter plugin.
