PSK 3.0 won't install
by Pat Frank · in Torque X Platformer Kit · 07/13/2009 (6:52 pm) · 5 replies
I have Visual Studio 2008 installed, including C#, and TX2D 3.0 and TGB are running great. Unfortunately when I try to install PSK 3.0 it says it can't launch a program and it rolls back the install.
Am I missing something here?

It sounds like something is really borked.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I also have Visual Studio 2005 installed on this machine, including the older XNA version. The machine has both that and 2008/XNA3, but no version of the TorqueX Platformer Kit will install. Both the old and new versions of TorqueX Builder appear to be working fine. It sounds like something is really borked.

What I did do to get the files was use msiexec to extract all the files, then just copy the templates to the My Templates directory. I was then able to start Visual Studio and successfully create a platformer demo. It will also have the help documentation in the extracted files.

I couldn't get it to install either with VS 2008, XNA 3.1, TX 2d 3.0 Pro and TX 3 CC.What I did do to get the files was use msiexec to extract all the files, then just copy the templates to the My Templates directory. I was then able to start Visual Studio and successfully create a platformer demo. It will also have the help documentation in the extracted files.

Version 3.0 is designed to work with 2008, but it still has the requirement that the Express version be installed. That is what is missing when it rolls back. Download and install VS 2008 Express from Microsoft and then PSK will install fine. Of course, you will still, then, only find the template in Express, not the regular version. I don't know if there is a way to fix that; maybe someone knows how.

Why hasn't this been designed to work with the non-express version also?

As I've said in other threads, garagegames should really remove the sales link to this item, or explicitly state what the install requirements are. It's pretty deceiving to leave it the way it is and quite frankly sours my opinion of a company that in other cases has provided me decent service.
