Torque3D and Houdini 10 Apprentice HD

Hi,
I just posted a discussion with some question about Houdini 1- $99 version and Torque 3D here:
http://www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/96267

Then I thought that maybe with Torque3D having the private forum here maybe I should have posted here?

Feel free do delete my post here or in the Houdini section so to only leave the most appropriate location live. Thank you

Post=====

Hi,
I have recently purchased Torque 3D Beta 3 and I'm looking to get the basics sorted out in terms of content pipeline.
I'm interested in Houdini 10 Apprentice HD because the indie torque related commercial license but I have a few questions

1) I assume that the Torque related commercial use of the Houdini Apprentice is also valid for Torque 3D (not just TGE/TGEA)

2) Does exporting from 'Houdini 10 Apprentice HD' work fine with 'Torque 3D Beta 3'? As in exporting textured objects, animated objects, charcater rigs, etc...

3) Is the exporter for Torque from Apprentice 10 fully featured or does it have some important feature missing/bugged?

I have searched for and went through a lot of Houdini threads on these forums of course, but some are old posts and may not apply to version 10 and I didn't see any specific about Houdini 10 and Torque 3D Beta

Thank you for your help, I guess these questions would be of interest to many new Torque 3D users

Hokuto. I know that .dts(TGE-TGEA) and .dae(Collada 1.4.1) are support because I use them. They work just fine.

In my mind:
Animation software is animation software. Computer Game Engine Software is Computer Game Engine Software. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Houdini 10 Apprentice HD is a Animation / modeling application. You create art assets and put them into Torque 3D. If you would like more information on what T3D uses please read the online-docs located under the main T3D forum as a sticky. I hope this helps you!

As for 1), AFAIK the Houdini license you get through GG is valid for commercial use with all GG engine products.

Hi guys,
yes I did ready the documentation, of course.

And yes of course animatino software is animation software etc... that's no the point. what I was asking when I mentioned animation is if animations made in Houdini Apprentice 10 HD export fine to Torque so the animated charater/object works just fine.

T3D is in BETA, so something may not be fully working yet, therefore I'm trying to know how well Apprentice 10 talks with Toruqe3D before spending $99, that's all

I don't have first-hand experience with using Houdini with Torque 3D (I've dabbled around with Houdini some but the license really put me off), but AFAIK it supports all DTS features that existed in TGEA and all this should still work in Torque 3D. There's been some enhancements like a second UV channel that probably are not supported by Houdini ATM but that should not matter much.

With Apprentice there's no Collada export so this option won't be available but otherwise Apprentice should be just fine for creating content for Torque 3D even in its current beta stage.

Thank you Rene.

I' find the time to try both Blender and Houdini, although Houdini Demo I don't think I can export to DTS so it will be a demo limited to 'how it works/feel' more than anything else.

I am just after the most efficient software to create art assets including animated objects/characters for Torque 3D.

I used to use Maya and XSI, didn't use them from long time and full versions are expensive. So maybe Blender or Houdini $99 version will have to do. Even Silo + Houdini could be an option
