About to embark on a big T3D non-game project; some questions

Hey guys.

I have a big project which I'm about to start. T3D is basically the renderer for this project, and at this stage that's about it. I'll be interfacting with T3D, starting with beta 3.

First of all, I have talked to GG about the non-game licensing issues.

I'll be asking T3D to be displaying 3DS and Maya-exported objects with animation, as well as needing some dynamic-skinning of objects. Everything should be pretty straight-forward, but I'm really just coming on to ask if there are any current problems with the T3D betas that I need to be aware of.

Also, is there anything I should specifically bear in mind in terms of upgrading to new betas in the future?

Thanks,
Ian

I saw that Brett had posted on removing the non-game licensing issue.

Could you be a bit more specific? Things are getting changed about a bit in the betas and various functions still need working on or adding.

How models reload animations appear to have changed for beta3. linky

I've been porting my scripts and assests over from TGEA with each new beta release, seems to work fine with tweaking, but I'm not about to start messing with code (to be honest pathfinding is about the only C++ I've been using) until there is a final, stable release. I'm not really a programmer so I don't want to keep redoing something each release that causes my brain to melt.

Ian, I'm working on a drilling rig animation video for a local gas company using T3D, and I started it in TGEA, moved everything over to B1 and now I'm up to B3. Changing from different betas is a piece of cake, and porting wasn't too bad; so you shouldn't have any problems with future betas/final release.

As of actual issues with T3D B3. Like Steve pointed out, you have to be more specific. So far I've ran into a few crashes, but its Beta, you'll have to deal with that.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you'll probably have to export to Collada or DTS shapes. 3DS isn't supported.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick replies. Have you got a link to the Brett/non-license thing Steve?

@Ian: We are also doing a non-game commercial project with T3D. Drop me a line if you are interested.
