by Tom Spilman · in Torque 3D Beginner · 05/30/2009 (1:20 am) · 823 replies

I think it's about time we started a show off thread for cool Torque 3D stuff.

Screenshots are great... but a YouTube HD video gives you massive bonus points. :)

Ready... Set.... GO!

Okay, I'm just putting this here because it's the most appropriate place, and I didn't want to put it in Ron's Cave Pack blog. That would just be rude! I made the cave sections in Blender (2.6 ish) and used a couple of Ron's rocks to fill it in a bit. Added a ground mesh that I also made, and voila!

@dB,
Is that the same toon resource that Ron featured on one of his videos? I totally need to play with that. I am thinking my next project needs to be tooned like this. I am looking at going for a simple Tronish look (not the same, just similar) and this would help I think.

I'm still a newbie but i've been using torque for the Oculus Rift and I have to say that it is great to build a world then walk around it with the rift I actually jumped when i turned around I had a zombie right at my face by accident and it lunged forward which was freaky.

I had a quick look at UDK and Unity but I think Torque is more my engine and the small things I have been doing to learn it has be really enjoyable.

Anyway The game i'm working on is a zombie adventure game i've got the zombies and time of day setup and got a somewhat spooky atmosphere and i'm slowly going to add in more code for zombies and exploring and a few puzzles as well.

If i can ever get the Hydra working it would be perfect to be in VR moving your arms around shooting these zombies I would love it :)

Anyway I know this isn't much when you think about how easy it is to do in torque but it's a start

Demo: no, my effect was based on some old code I found floating around the forums. Steve Acaster helped me get it working. The additions are contained in this commit.

Hi TrueSpirit, nice looking scene you have there.

If you want to post pictures on the forums you can do it like this:
[image]http://s1.directupload.net/images/130827/xk4ojfla.jpg[/image]

If you image is too big (in your case) then you can set the size like this:
[image width=720 height=373]http://s1.directupload.net/images/130827/xk4ojfla.jpg[/image]

The result would be your picture like this:

Figured I may as well share this. Not HD because a) my bandwidth sucks, and b) I recorded in windowed mode.

Those terrains with the Cheetah and the blue man (hurrah!) were excellent. Though one thing I've seen done well very rarely: shorelines. Beaches not too bad, but other sorts of shoreline don't seem to be done very well in most stuff I see.

What do you mean mate? That not enough effort goes into river banks?

If you mean that river banks tend to be a bit bland or otherwise devoid of interesting "crap", then I agree. That's why I'll be dressing mine up like this image from Gothic 3.

I agree; most rivers are just a ditch with water in it. That shot looks much nicer Dan.

@Dan Webb,
Those are nice terrains! Oh, and the barren wasteland areas exist. Just go to southern Utah. Miles and miles of absolutely nothing but rock and dirt sometimes a bush.

Hey guys. Thanks for the feedback.

@Frank - I don't have to go all the way to the 'States' to see vast empty landscapes. This whole country is pretty much barren. :D

Here's an island I'm currently working on. It's actually a screen cap from inside World Machine, but I'll probably show it from inside Torque once it's fleshed out.

I couldn't be bothered sizing it to fit in here, so you'll have to follow that link. Sorry, I'm lazy.
