Torque 3D Show Off Thread!

by Tom Spilman · in Torque 3D Beginner · 05/30/2009 (1:20 am) · 823 replies

I think it's about time we started a show off thread for cool Torque 3D stuff.

Screenshots are great... but a YouTube HD video gives you massive bonus points. :)

Ready... Set.... GO!

Another set of shots from Xenocell. The environment is procedurally generated entirely. The dropship is a static object for now - it still needs an ai behavior.

@Konrad,
I think we have hit a limit on posts on this thread. You can go to the thread and view up to page 29. However you cannot see the new posts unless you are getting notified in email. If you open the URL in the email you can see the page 30, but it does not have any way to post. So we should start a new T3D show off thread.

Here is the new thread: www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/131645

Konrad,
It's looking fantastic, good work! I can't wait until our project is to that point.

Looking good Konrad..., and so artistic to be procedural.

@Kory: Thank you! Our kickstarter is coming up in a month, so right now,even if a few things still break, they must look great no matter what! :)

@Michael: Thanks! The key was going from the results in small steps backwards instead of looking for the right algorithm that would produce the results I needed - and it took some time for me to realize that. So I did mockups of how I wanted a level to look like and tried to break that up into parts that could be "syhthetized". The tools, the functions are the same, but the thought process and the results were different. In the end it mattered little how realistic the terrain was, because it would be covered by rocks, trees and buildings that would be realistic and which would hijack attention anyway. So I tried to concentrate on playability - to focus on the areas that the player would instinctively use to travel. The rest is solved by a pretty basic system that distributes objects on the terrain much like the shape replicator did. I ended up not using Forest, because I wanted to use prefabs everywhere, so that I could use larger building blocks and it would be easy to change or rescale individual models without being dependent on the mission file. A level has around 600-1000 such props on average.

@Konrad, Good luck on your project going to kickstarter. It about time for people to start seeing awesome games being developed with T3D.

I was fiddling with L3DT and tried to come up with something of a south pole vista. It's not much but it looked pretty.

@Kyrah,
That is really nice. It almost looks like moonlight on a desert. It gives me a peaceful feeling.

Yeah sadly i don't have an alien infected science station to add here.

@Kyrah - Is your game about studying infected aliens? Or did you mean alien infested? :D

Anyway, I thought I'd join the fray and show off a couple of images. These are all part of my current project. Just trying to refine my pipeline a bit.
