Some comments on the "What's New" page

After some days of use, I'd like to throw some feedback on the new section.
Ok, thats all I can remind for now :)
- Blog Listing Classism Only employee blogs in that listing is a bit corporativistic. Specially beeing the Whats new a summary for the community, and *also* having the employee blogs on the front page already...
- Recent Forum Threads not updating? Is there a filter over the forums that get covered by the "Recent Forum Threads"? Because it looks like its really delayed from the actual forum activity, or that it covers only certain forums (?). Some insights on that would be appreciated.
- Still needing to Scroll Is there any chances of getting the "Whats New" page a bit shorter, so less scrolling is needed? Maybe removing some blogs fro the summary, or making the blog list formating more compact.
- Spotlight not clear Whats the idea behind this? My guess is that Spotlighted blogs would need to have a clear identificatory picture? In that case, that should be a requirement rather than optional, because as it is now, its totally unclear what the blog pointed is about.
And lets face it, employees dont blog that frequently, and as a result, we get a bunch of outdated blogs in the "whats new" page.
Edit: it seems like is updating properly now. Maybe a tooltip with the forum to what that thread belong would be cool. I know, I know, just take it in mind ;)
Also, the picture is cool, but some title would be appreciated. Maybe less elements, but with more insights of what the heck it is about, for each one.
Ok, thats all I can remind for now :)

In the meantime, I would like to have a useful tool in the "Whats New", for those of us that *do* consult the site on a regular basis.
Regarding the scrolling, and the pagination, Im still of the opinion that there is no point in putting in pagination, if there is still scrolling to do. Pagination should be optional.
And yes, the site is advancing quickly, and for good :)

Well if anyone doesn't check the site on a regular basis, thats what the sidebar "Employees Blog" is for ("Blogs" Section). In the meantime, I would like to have a useful tool in the "Whats New", for those of us that *do* consult the site on a regular basis.

I tend to agree with everything that Novack mentioned here... and I definitely hate the pagination! Maybe if we had an option for 20/50/100 posts per page as a preference then it might make sense... but as it is now it's mostly an annoyance.

When I arrive in the forums, I select "View all unread". Sometimes there are 100+ threads to overlook. As I look over them during 30minutes or more I am sure someone has made a recent post that will be voided from, what should be the start of a new recent thread list. My only other choice is to refresh the list of unread threads, then "fish" out the new threads amongst the 100+ threads I just overlooked.
The point is, if I leave the site open on the unread thread page, for a day, and then mark all as read...then any thread that was a new-not-read post, is washed out.
Am I making any sense ? ..I keep re-reading this post and it reads awkward. Blame it on cold medication!

I am not sure if this is what was meant by the comment "Recent Forum Threads not updating?"...but I have been wanting to ask about this for quite sometime now:When I arrive in the forums, I select "View all unread". Regarding the list, no, thats not what I meant, but what *you* mean is clear nontheless.
I was refering to the mini-list, at the bottom of the "Whats New" page, entitled "Recent Forum Threads". However I was considering removing that point from my comments, as its updating better now (it sometimes took half a day to see a thread appear on that list).
I'll edit it to denote more on the lines of what Gerry said.

Quote:Maybe a tooltip with the forum to what that thread belongYes, I think that would work, to include as much info as possible without adding too much text to a page.
Quote: Maybe if we had an option for 20/50/100 posts per page as a preferenceI kinda like that too. I usually max out the numbers of posts/results displayed on forums/search-engines, etc., that provide an option like that. And maybe an option to display the last posted comment first... as long as it was not a global option. It would good, for me, in threads I follow closely but could make it hard to follow the train of thoughts in an old thread I was just coming to for the first time.

I agree that the spotlights aren't clear. A small title, along with the date or instead of the date, under the pics would help.
I also think it would be helpful if the 'recent forum threads' showed what forum they are from. The titles don't always make it clear and one might see something there that is interesting to them and on opening it up finding that it has to do with another game engine besides the one they are using.
Overall the site is coming along nicely but there are still some improvements that can be made to navigation. For example another thing that would be nice would be a quick way to jump right to the last posted comment in a thread, rather than opening up the post; scrolling down below the original post to click on 'Last Page'; and then scrolling down to the last comment on that page.
