Resolved Create Heightmap, opacity map size
by Steve Acaster · in Torque 3D Professional · 05/01/2009 (6:21 pm) · 13 replies
Trying the Sickhead guys heightmap assets as in the docs, but it always says opacity map is not the same size as the height field.
Tried some custom height/opacity maps too and it says the same thing.
Not listed as klnown issues - anyone got this to work?

Just making sure since you didn't mention it... you are using the same sized heightmaps and opacity maps, correct? The provided examples give you the choice of 512 or 1024 for each. But you have to choose one or the other.

Before I go into it just a little tip for all those out there who want to report bugs....always...and I mean always detail the bug properly which means give screen shots if possible and go into the problem step by step. I've worked in IT Support (and a Developer of course)pretty much my whole life and this is a very important step. So getting to the problem....I have tested this out myself yesterday with no results. I even tested it on Russells tutorial and no luck these either. Now here are steps on what is happening:
1) Create the heightmap at 512 in GeoControl.
2) Go into File|Import Heightmap
3) Enter the details and browse to where the Hieghtmap is located under the Project Directory etc.
4) Enter the masking details again these are all 512.
5) For each of the masks enter in the grass, rock, snow, etc etc details. Each of these textures are 512 x 512.
6) Enter in the size to repeat on the terrain which is 512.
7) After entering all the texture details click to import the map and boom....that's when the error happens! The exact error is: The "C:\torque\......" opacity map does not match the heightmap sixe!
As I have mentioned this not only happens with Russells data but my own data.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the extra detail, Richard. Just to be clear, it's Michael's tutorial, I just provided the art. If you're using my maps, it's likely that a bug has come up with the opacity map import since Michael and I put that stuff together.

@Russel - I figure that's it as I've tried my own custom maps and no joy either.

So I take it whatever is causing it in the first place with all maps it will get looked into?

Is anyone still experiencing this issue? I was unable to reproduce it in Beta 4+ (I suspect someone already fixed whatever it was causing it, and I can go ahead and mark it off the list if someone can verify it doesn't occur anymore).

Just tested and it's good. It was because the heightmap doesn't like to look through so many directories before (wanted to be in C:) but this seems fixed. That got mentioned on another thread.Moving to Resolved.

@Steve, thanks for confirmation :) Also, could you point me to that thread, because while I was testing this I noticed that there appears to be a problem with the import dialog attempting to make a relative path for a file that is in a folder on the desktop (it seems to end up trying to do "parent" ../ on the root drive to get there, as you would with the Windows open dialog or the like).

I think this is it.
