So what did we actually buy?

by Kyrah Abattoir · in Torque 3D Professional · 04/14/2009 (8:26 am) · 55 replies

I'm starting to wonder how many of the "cool" new features that are visible in most of the videos are actually included in the engine we bought.
Can someone make me a brief summary of what isn't included yet was shown in the GDC videos & the other features videos of Torque3D?

Also, any hint on the release date, it seems a bunch of peoples already got their hands on it and i'm starting to feel like a second class developper -_- .

there have been a few of us that have asked for the white paper and list, there has also been a growing list of items that have been announced that they will not be included in the professional pack but will be addons, or packs. I know its frustrating. they said we would get a beta here soon. so grab a pitchfork and wait for it.

*dances to pass the time*

It would be nice if there was atleast an update from GG on whats going on. Im sure we would all be happy with this secret "T3D hands on" that a few people seem to be sporting.

I talked with licensing and it might be a couple weeks still. They said beta in April, so it might be the last day of April.

I have my pitch fork.

It would be nice to reply to my questions about the features.

I know they are working on writing the documentation.

It would be nice to know what features are add-ons and keep track.

I am most concerned when it comes to the web player functionality. www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/89167

I bought T3D to get access to the beta so I could see the web publishing portion. I really hope it's going to make the beta. www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/87901 I'll check on that news. Best thing is to email support and report back on what you find.

so do we even get ...

-SSAO?
-The fancy dynamic lighting thing we saw on video?
-This new terrain texture thingie?

Basically what more is there on top of what TGEA could already do?

I mean itsnot that i don't like Garage games, but i think i have every "version" of the engine so far and well, when you are an indy with no fundings at all it makes a nice big dent in the budget.

Yes, and your T-shirt will have Shirt Space Ambient Occlusion and dynamic lighting, provided you move a light around it.

You could probably get the rain demo on your t-shirt as well with the weather around here...

"Shirt Space Ambient Occlusion"

The creases in the shirt will be darker than the areas exposed to lighting

@Julien

You get...
Yes
Yes
and Yes

Watch the videos of the demo that were posted from GDC - the only part you don't get is the Forest kit (so all the trees which sway and all). Everything else there, the road/rivers, the ability for physx integration (I had seen it somewhere mentioned that's the reference physics implementation now, not sure), the shaders, the collada importing support, the revised UI, etc. etc. etc.

The T3D documentation is on the inside tag of the t-shirt.

Having to wear the shirt backwards, in order to read the documentation, is a known bug - we are working on getting the tag to the front of the shirt.

You guys almost made me fall out of my chair laughing! I always enable Shirt Space Ambient Occlusion in my wardrobe. I have to get a few beers in me before the DoF is really effective for most scenes though.

We are all very hard at work on the Beta right now. I've got a list of 30 things that need to be done before we ship the Beta and pretty much every one of them is either well under progress or well scoped to get done.

Ultimately, if it comes down to it, I'd rather us take a couple extra days in May to make sure the Beta is solid rather than ship something that isn't useful to you or us. We are still aiming for the first Beta in April but it is a tight schedule and there is a lot to get done.

Now back to work so that we can get it done in time (on my b-day even)!

Happy b-day Matt! In Native American culture, it's traditional to give gifts to your closest friends to celebrate your b-day.

When the beta ships are you going into feature freeze? Or will you continue to add features after beta-day?

And let's not forget to talk about web publishing...
