Indie license - source code needed?

by GamerChick2010 · in General Discussion · 03/20/2009 (8:20 am) · 2 replies

Hi, I am new here and have a question before I purchase the Torque 2D software. I see the indie license is $100, whereas the indie license with "Source Code" included is $250.

What is the benefit to paying for the Source Code. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject, as I am not a programmer.

Thank you!

With the source code, you can change the inner workings of the engine, otherwise, there isn't any benefit to having the source code. Since you proclaimed yourself to not be a programmer, it's highly unlikely that you actually need the source code. I doubt that you need the source code unless you know you need it.

I think that you could upgrade your license to include the source code later on, if you decide that you have to have it for some reason.

@GamerChick2010 - As Chris said, unless you need to change or add major functionality you will not need source code access. This usually means stuff like integrating a new physics system, adding database queries, reworking the networking, etc.

If you have an idea of what kind of games you want to make, you can post some details and we can better advise you.
