Material Friction use for player class

by Caylo Gypsyblood · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/05/2009 (12:07 am) · 14 replies

EDIT:
I decided to keep it to myself... Thanks for pissing me off (You know who your are; thanks for the email spams), truly made me change the way i think about the GG community.

If this is something your truly interested in, its just a matter of changing the castRay functions to handout material info.

No one yet attempt to utilize the friction field from Material class?

How about some brainstorming theories of how it could be used to apply friction to a player maneuverable surface? Such a feature could be immensely useful.

Cool... we should fix this for Torque 3D.

I would like to change it so the friction calculates with inertia, so a slick surface the player would continue to slide for a distance removing momentum incrementally. I have not yet rotated back to this subject for continuing inquiry as it is working 'good enuff for now' but will update if/when i figure it out.

grrrr, computer gremlin will eat your CPU!

This was a typo, nothing more. And being we can not be trusted with a message delete function why not make it a funny?

EDIT: oh you changed your post. No matter;
I had luck with that. It works great! Its fun to watch my play testers walk onto an icy surface and unsuspecting slip and slide across it. I also love having the footfall sounds echoing off hard stone floors only to change when stepping onto soft carpet. Truly adds allot to the atmosphere, helping to build a better illusion.

I have posted similar 'bleh' in another thread of mine. And I agree with your (self)censored 'bleh'.
