Artist Documentation page

Constructor is for props and buildings only. No creature models.

I don't really think you could make creatures with static shapes. If you want to make humans creatures etc, you should look around to find what to use. I personaly do not know but i am sure others do.

Milk Shape is a good inepensive modeling program. Blender is very good but a little tough to learn but it is a free program. 3DS Max if you really want to spend some money but is very powerful program. You can find demos if you do a search and try them out.

there is also xsi which there is a free version for indie developers. xsi is a pro program like max and all those high costly programs. i think its the easiest to use out of any 3d program i have ever used. i talking about how long it takes to learn the program it only took me 1 week to learn the basic stuff and a month to learn just about everything else.

other 3d programs its a big pain getting started and it it just don't seem to save me time when makeing 3d objects with how things are set up in other 3d programs. in mater of fact now that i use xsi my 3d objects look better then any other 3d object i have ever made every single one of them looks better. i used to hate my work now and i love my own work now. not only that what used to make me days now takes me hours which makes it a big A+++ for xsi for me.

most people say pick the program your used to or one that you like the most xsi seems to be made for everyone though as its easy to learn. we also have a good exporter now with xsi.

Edit: sorry if i kind of advertised xsi to much but i love it and think everyone should try it weather your a beginner or not.

Yeah, the major main stream modelers are 3D Studio MAX, Lightwave, and Maya. Shareware would be Milkshape 3D. Free would have to be Blender hands down.

Brandon Baker: Err....XSI? The only XSI I know of is SoftImages' 2D program that is considered the equal to Adobe's Photoshop program. Do you have a link? Softimage is the only XSI I get when searching but I don't see anything about modelers.

Thanks for the input guys!
It seems all of you have left out my fav... TrueSpace. www.Caligari.com
I've been using it ever since version 5.0 but until 7.6 (which is now free!!!) that supports Collada, I've been having trouble with the export options. Sure it saves to 3dx files, .x files, and even its own .cob files, but how do you convert them to Torque's .dts and .dif files.

Here are some tutorials if you are still looking to use constructor for interiors. As the others said, constructor is for interiors and buildings not "organic" models. web.mac.com/manged/iWeb/Constructor/Tutorials.html

@J. Reeves,
Thank you for that link to the constructor tutorials. I'll be looking into them any day now!

@B. Baker
Thank you for that advice for XSI. I just been to their webiste, and the only thiing I saw free on there is the MOD TOOl. Is that what you were referring to? BTW, my fav is TrueSpace from Caligari, even though my only complaint about the software is its User Interface (UI). It too has a free version, v. 7.6 their latest. I can't say that its any better than XSI since I havn't used XSI, but I like it a lot better than Blender. I guess my problem is that having learned the way TrueSpace does things (which UI is weird when you comapre it to other programs like Max, Lightwave, and Blender) other UI's becone difficult to adjust to. have you used that program?

i like cinema 4d but there seems to be very very few people using it

as far as mod tool yes that is the free version of xsi

i really cant say that i have any clue what the other guy is talking about saying that softimage is like photoshop

xsi is a 3d modeling app made by a company called softimage

though it now belongs to autodesk (dosnt everything)
