Feb 2009 GarageGames.com Feedback Thread

So the old feedback thread was getting pretty large, and I want to continue to have one central place to look at your suggestions/recommendations and make sure the web team can log them and work on them over the next month. Just as a quick recap, here is the stuff you asked for and we fixed (in no particular order):
And here is some stuff we've logged into our project management software, and we plan on fixing in future releases. (Note: There is no guarantee of exactly when this will get fixed...we prioritize our task list after each site release for the next release of the site. But we are looking into all of these issues) Again, this is in no particular order:
We're shooting for the next release of the site on Feb. 18th. You guys have made a TON of great suggestions, so if there's anything I missed in the flurry of the site's launch, feel free to mention it below!
Keep 'em coming!

Just wanted to let everyone know who's following this that since we did an unexpected release of the site to fix a few back-end issues on Feb 12, we will not be doing a release today as planned. However, rest assured that we're still prioritizing and listening to all this feedback. Thanks again much for both your patience and support!!

Another bug I just noticed: My email address field, when someone copies and pastes to an email, inserts "null" between the @ and the domain, so that my email address goes from Ted@DigitalFlux.com to Ted@nullDigitalFlux.com. I retyped the email in the profile, to no avail. It can't be seen unless copied and pasted. Not sure if this was posted before.

Btw, question to the staff: it is needed to be logged on a member account to be able to see other people's profiles, isn't?

Ted that is probably on purpose, spam prevention.Btw, question to the staff: it is needed to be logged on a member account to be able to see other people's profiles, isn't?

@Novack: Good point. It should probably be mentioned somehow though, so people don't get confused with the bounce-backs.
#46
I jest. But it could happen.

Now... the question is do I go ahead and register nullgaragegames.com to intercept possible misdirected emails to GG staff?I jest. But it could happen.

@Ross: lol... That's a damn good tactic for those with no morals. GG should probably look into a better way of doing that lest new customers start conversing with nullgaragegames staff asking for their passwords and whatnot. Maybe display the email as an image instead of text. Spammers can still scrape it, but it closes the vulnerability to the "null" domains, and you can always place a warning to those exposing their email addresses. Security holes should never be left unattended.

Try logging out and click your profile and see:)
As far as the email, if you double click on the email text you get the same null, so its an oops I think.
EDIT: BTW Novack, do I know you as Capt Novack??? :):)

Also there used to be a link in people’s profiles that listed all of the resources they gave a 4 or 5 rating to. Both of these are probably low priority items, but I’d still like to see them again.

In addition to resource categories, I'd like to see resource ratings again. When the site had resource ratings I'd know that if a resource had a low score, that it was probably out dated, buggy or just not very good. It used to take only a few seconds to determine if a resource was worth trying out. But now I either have read through numerous comments or test it for myself, which can take several minutes; and those minutes can start to add up if there are a lot of resources for the topic I'm interested in.Also there used to be a link in people’s profiles that listed all of the resources they gave a 4 or 5 rating to. Results: Visitors do NOT have to be logged-in to be able to see the profiles contents.
Bad thing, if you allow me. The old way was safer, and makes more sense to the community. I would feel not so exposed to viagra mail bombings, if only community members are able to see my mail address.
On the "null" thing, I would add that it does NOT work on Google Chrome, it just copies the *real* mail address.
Yes Randy! that's my war nick on some games... and beta tests... where from, Buccaneers?? Who you were?

@RandyQuote:Try logging out and click your profile and see:)Some people dont have any respect of other people's lazyness! Ok! Very good! I'll do it myself! ... Heh, Good tip.

I would get ride of the breaklines before and after some markup codes like 'quote' and 'code' as people tends to ignore/forget those and add more breaklines in their posts by hand, resulting in wide blank spaces in some posts.

The TGE Private forums still do not show up when clicking All Unread Posts.

The search works much better now, thank you.
There are still things that bother me, I know some of them you plan on improving.
I am beginning to hate the banner that takes up almost half the screen.
I still find the forums and resources difficult to navigate.
I miss the old what's new page with everything new organized nicely, not all dumped into one spot where you can't tell blog from resource etc. The featured section is usually mirrored right below it for a day or two.
I hate the paging.
Resources are hard to browse, sometimes you just want to look through them and see what is available.
In general, I find it frustrating that there seems to be so little information on every page. Everything seems like its too spread out.
This is just my feedback on some of the things that would help me personally to enjoy the site more.
Thanks for reading.

Things that changed today that directly affect the community:
We're still reading, so keep the comments coming!

For March, we're trying to do a lot more minor updates and tweaks for the website, so we can get functionality to you sooner. Jacob will recap everything in a blog at the end of the month, but I'll keep you posted here as well.Things that changed today that directly affect the community:
- RSS Feeds are back!
- Tweaked line break conversion and word-wrapping for all posted text, meaning code blocks won't go off the screen anymore.
We're still reading, so keep the comments coming!

Code blocks now have an extraneous line being added between lines... annoying and a waste of space.

The site's been running a bit slow today, mostly when it comes to posting.

- Last-Login date in profile appears to be wrong.
- Pressing "Submit" after "Editing" a comment on 'Page 3' returns you to the FIRST page of the forum thread, not the LAST.
Feature Request
- Does the "Markup-Lite" cheat-sheet fully document the markup-light options?
- If not could you link to a "Complete MarkupLite Reference Page"?
- Also is it possible to add some missing HTML tags to MarkupLite?
Some tags I'm interested in:
- Header Tags: (h4)(/h4), (h5)(/h5), (h6)(/h6)
- Horizontal Rule: (hr /)
- Page Anchors - Create an anchor in the middle of the page to hot-link too. Does (url)(/url) do this???
- Bullet-List and Ordered List: (ul)(/ul), (ol)(/ol), (li)(/li)
Decided to try these out myself.:
