Recommended Character Model Polygon Count

What is a rough estimate of polygons for a character model for TGE? I plan on creating a few that I have concepts for but I wasn't sure how much detail to go into with the actual modeling. I also hope to use textures that are a little more hi-res than 512x512 if at all possible and I know that can take away from the game speed.

The default TGE Orc player is 2500-3000 triangles, somewhere in that range would be good to shoot for. If you are planning on having multiple characters with that kind of poly count you'll want to make sure you have decent detail levels to drop the poly counts when they are not needed.
