" Rune " type 3rd person melee deathmatch game....interest?

by TreManor · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 01/30/2009 (11:10 am) · 10 replies

Pretty straight forward idea. Viking Fantasy, third person POV, Swords, axes, spears, hammers, shields, bows, moderately sized indoor and outdoor arenas, Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Ogres, Trolls, Giants, wizards, warriors, archers, etc. etc.

Is Torque suitable?

Does anyone have an interest in this kind of thing?

Does anyone with ability have the interest to work on the project?

I am a sculptor, and 2d artist. I have some experience with 3d modeling in Wings 3d but I am now learning Z Brush. I know this is less than an ideal set up for a project, but I figure that my first question at least is worth th effort to post.

I do very much appreciate any help anyone is inclined to offer.

To give some idea as to my artistic ability;

i'm still a beginner in terms of...well ALL things game developement related, but i'd say you could make this kind of game useing torque.

sorry for the lack of helpful info. the main reason i'm replying is to complement you on your very impressive art work. it's stuff like this that keeps me motivated to improve my own skills :)

Yep, it sounds like Torque will definitely cover this style of game - you could make great usage of the terrain system in a fantasy game. If you're looking seriously to put a team together, it's a good idea to have quite a detailed plan so people know what they're getting into.

I have to agree with Felix, your artwork is brilliant! If you get together a concept, I'm sure there'll be more than a few coders willing to work with someone with your skills.

Thanks, Felix and Daniel.

I am wanting to base this game in my own " original " fantasy world that I am also basing all of my miniatures on as well as a table top rules set. I do have concept art drawn representing several of the differetn characters and monster types that I will be modeling in the very near future. Z-Brush is still a bit foriegn to me but I am progressing. It is my hope that I will have some stuff to show off in the hope of garnering interest.... One thing that I have to be careful of though is that the miniature buisness is quite competetive, so I must be very careful not to show anything too early that I do not have already sculpted, else someone else might decide to " borrow " the designs. ;)

Hopefully I will have something to show in the next few days.

fantastic art style there TreManor. I've always loved that non anime detailed yet cartoony look. Do you have an email address or someplace I can contact you I would like to ask you something.

I've been toying with the idea of a Rune remake for many years. The multiplayer aspect of that game was so incredibly fun and your art style is smack bang on what I was picturing for it; a more humorous approach than the original rune which would lend itself more to the comical dismemberment that was seen in Rune.

I'm also keen to start toying with the Torque engine as it seems like a very viable choice for another game that I'm designing in my spare time. I'll be in contact with you within a few days when my work dies down (I work at Creative Assembly and we're doing 12 hr days at the moment for crunch time).

Awesome! Sounds like you are in the same boat as I. I am slogging through a few commissions and a slew of new releases that I need to release by the 1st of march. Creative Assembly eh? I was just thinking today how cool it would be to make a Spartan; Total Warrior ( one of my all time favorties ) type of game in this theme. I am not as wishy-washy as this might come across, I just tend to day dream quite a bit when I am staring at a desk full of figures that need finishing. lol.
