Cut the art?

by Daniel Buckmaster · in Combat Starter Kit · 01/19/2009 (9:43 am) · 5 replies

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to purchase a version of this kit without any of the art content, just the code. Is anyone else here wishing for something similar? What you guys have done with the coding looks pretty terrific, but the copious amount of stuff in the kit is far overkill for me - especially when I'll be making all my own content anyway (eventually).

Wow, Daniel, thats the first time i have seen anyone around here, ask for less in a kit for their money instead of more?

I'm guessing he means to offer a code only version of the kit for less money

Interesting idea.
but a number of the images are tied directly into the scripts.

but if you want something that just drops kork into an empty level, post a note on the mydreamrpg forums. Mabye Ashley can work something out.

I would include scripts with 'art', most of the time - unless a significant amount of gameplay and features are being implemented in scripts. In which case I would probably not want to purchase the kit anyway - I'm a source-code chauvinist ;)
But when I meant 'art', I meant things specific to the CSK 'game'. So I wouldn't want the DIFs, DTSs, weapon scripts or levels.
I was just interested, and wanted to see if anyone else had had this thought. As it happens, I'll probably just be doing it my own way anyway. I'm implementing changes that are different to what CSK provides: there's not much overlap between my needs and what CSK can give me.

The art is only meant to be placeholder art really. It is there to show the functionality of the kit. That is probably why I didn't think to really clean out the art folders. I assumed that game devs would replace them.
