Help With MBP Levels

by Nicholas · in Marble Blast · 01/13/2009 (5:00 pm) · 13 replies

I'm totally stuck on the following levels --

EXPERT LEVEL 1 (Stamina)
The expert levels must be SO difficult if I there's only two MBG levels I cannot complete and I can't even complete the first level of a group in MBP! I can get past the moving steps and the ramp, and I can race through the bit with the first moving platform. The second moving platform I can get past, but then I have no idea what to do when I get to the section with the ramps, right after you hop off the second moving platform.

ADVANCED LEVEL 10 (Fighting Slopes)
People who say Marble Blast Platinum is easy, well, I think they're just SO good at 'marble blasting'. But because the creators of the game are SO good, that probably puts it down a bit, because to me, this game has no 'flow' to it, unlike Marble Blast Gold. Anyway, I'm stuck at 'Fighting Slopes'. The first slope I get up pretty easily, the second slope I can get through even more easily than the first, the third slope I struggle a bit, but I can get past, and then the fourth, I get stuffed. I try and try and try, to get up this slope! But I can barely get any higher than the diamond! And if you can help me, please tell me how to do the fifth slope as well.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 30 (Dragged Up!)
This level is OH-SO-NOT intermediate! I'd put this level at something like Advanced Level 50 if I chose where to put the levels! I once cheated and played the next level 'Gym', and it was a trillion times easier than this level! (I'm not cheating again though.) Like I said! MBP has no 'flow' to it. (No offence; I can understand that the creators are very good at playing Marble Blast!) I've tried my limits with this level! I can't do it! I've played it so much trying to complete it, I've even collected the Easter Egg on this level without even attempting to do so! I try it just using the speed boosters, jumping, and diagonal movement, but when I do that, I barely make it past the last speed booster! Then I tried collecting the first speed booster, going back to the start, then attempting a double speed boost at the start! But that doesn't work because then I go shooting up into the air! - With my marble spinning at extreme speed, so that when I hit the platform, I go shooting forward off the level! If I move backwards, I start moving towards the ramp! Leaving me with no choice but to go Out-of-Bounds, or fly back down the ramp!

SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THESE SUPER-DOOPER-TRICKY-LEVELS!

Marble Blast Platinum is designed to text you more so than MBG. Anyways for those, watch these videos-

Stamina- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHhKZoa7zJk
Fighting Slopes- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpkukxbGwuw
Dragged Up- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEpcWuHBBlM

Trick to fighting slopes is to use diagonal movement (watch how in the video). Basically you have your camera on an angle and hold down both the ws or wd keys simultaneously.

As for dragged up, just hold forward, jump the whole time, and hold down to mouse to use the super speeds.

MBP was designed to be harder than MBG on purpose. Dragged Up is simply controlling your spin (did you jump while going up?), Fighting Slopes's rug is annoying and I want that fixed as well, and Stamina is just to go fast.

MBP does have a flow (unlike MBG :P) but more advanced players will notice it. Most players have beaten those levels (then again, we did practice, which is what we keeping saying to everyone) with some difficulty but they learnt how to beat them.

Thanks for the advice. I ALWAYS use diagonal movement for the slopes. In fact, since I did the diagonal movement tutorial in the beginner levels, I couldn't stop myself using it. And by the way, I changed my control keys. I use the arrow keys for the marble and the W A S D keys for the camera. I use LShift to use a powerup. I DO hold that down all the time. I did jump as much as possible. But would it be good advice to jump when the ramp goes nearly straight up? The marble would probably move backwards off the slope and you wouldn't be able to get back on. It seems I can never get to the top attempting how you did it. But I cannot control my spin when I use two speed boosters at the start! Even when I try to slow down or something, I can never get it just right!

Matan

Was it? Maybe you should call the first tab 'Intermediate', the second tab 'Advanced', the third tab 'Expert', and the fourth tab 'Master'. That would be better.
I did jump whilst going up, but the best I've done is get to the start of the last section of carpet. (Or is it rug?)
Really? FINALLY! An expert finally agrees that something I find hard is hard!
Yes, well, you don't get my point; my point is I don't know WHERE TO GO, not how I need to react to the level.
Well I am not surprised you say MBP does have a flow! OK! I admit it! Neither MBG or MBP have a flow! Tightrope and Natural Selection should be the two last levels, and Darwin's Dilemma should be the first advanced level! (Like you said in your video). MBP doesn't have much of a flow either though, as I once cheated and found 'Gym' MUCH easier than 'Dragged Up(!)'.
WELL I'VE ATTEMPTED TO BEAT DRAGGED UP ABOUT 100 TIMES ALREADY! And by the way, I don't think you would say the messages in the Out of Bounds 200 times, 400 times, 600 times etc. TO YOUR OWN CHILDREN! They're pretty funny some of them though.
Thank you!

PS. How hard would a level have to be to give you a real challenge? (A really lame level will give me a real challenge!)

Nicholas, the vids PF linked you are mine :p

Secondly, the trick for Dragged Up is to use three speed boosters (note my continous diagonal up to the speed boosters, followed by instantly super speeding and jumping all the time. I stopped jumping towards the end and then just used diagonal. If you jump at the end, you'll still gain height but find yourself a bit before the top platform. The trick here is to use diagonal movement to go forwards and once you're above the platform, to go backwards. This is spin control. Same goes for four speed boosters, although the height reached is so large you can just go backwards until you slow down and then just go forwards/backwards etc until you hit the ground with no spin.

Fighting Slopes rug part is actually due to a bug where some people can't go fully on it (only up to a certain angle).

MBP keeps the beginner-advanced tabs because beginner really is beginner levels (teaches all basics). Expert levels are hard, but some of the higher-ups are easier due to the categorization I've done (tightrope levels, Catwalks and Slowropes are together as part of the categorization) while The Time Modifier Race is too easy to be that high on the list, but it is.

Tip: go to the next level (locked one) and click somewhere around the inside of the 'P' or the top left and the level will unlock. So if you haven't beaten Expert Level 1, go to level 2 and press it and it'll unlock. If you go to 3, however, it won't unlock until number 2 is unlocked. There is a "cheat" to enable all levels without that method, but I have yet to put it in Tip of the Day (you're using 1.12.01 I assume).

Back to tabs: Beginner-Expert is something we're more used to, and suited our needs. We worked on this modification for a year before initial release and half a year later we released 1.10. MBP is now a year old since release and we have tons of custom levels for MBP as well so we're very happy.

MBP levels, btw, are categorized. For example, intermediate levels have a 'slow' of Take a Stroll... ending with a 'race' level (Downhill Racing), so it's 4 levels increasing in speed. Expert is the most categorized section in the game, and most of its levels are hard.

Everyone is experienced on different style, so for me a challenge would be a very tough level that for you would be impossible, while things you find hard are very easy for me. I've also had to set Ultimate Times myself, so that's an extra challenge, finding best routes I can (though people destroyed Learn the Edge Hit, I never expected that low of a time...). Overall, fun experience.

Good luck!

Thank you!

Yes - Ultimate times I guess would be hard to set. . .though in one of the levels I made it was SO easy for me because I hid a two minute time modifier inside a wall so you can get it but cannot see it! :)

I haven't beaten many Ultimate times. . .in fact the only two I think I've beaten is 'Learn The Bouncy Floor', and 'Bump Your Head'. Do you know of anyone who has achieved the achievement 'Legendary Marbler'?

I have never even beaten the Platinum time in Learn the Edge Hit; and I've played that level a lot. It seems impossible to me.

Thank you for the videos! I beat the 'Dragged Up!' platinum time the first time I completed the level! (Yet again, an easy 'high-time'. . .and a level by you I think!) I eventually beat 'Fighting Slopes', I had to get on the exact angle! (Matan, do you know of a glitch when looking up help you go up high slopes? It sort of feels like that to me.) And Stamina felt like a Beginner level. . .that is, once I found out what I needed to do! I managed to race through the rest of the intermediate levels; but now I have new challenges. . .

Neon Tech - I actually completed this level, and got up to Ring Stunts! But then my computer stuffed and I lost all my data back to when I was up to this level! Nevermind- Neon Tech and all the levels UP TO Ring Stunts were pretty straight-forward. Ring Stunts seems like a really frustrating level.

Tunnel Vision - Ultimate doom! I hate it when I play levels that have 'mysterious' Out Of Bounds places! I've played some levels like that and it totally FREAKS ME OUT when I roll the marble and it suddenly says 'OUT OF BOUNDS!'

I wish PhilsEmpire luck in their future. . .Maybe you could create a new game altogether- :)

How did you disable the GUI Editor? I type in the cheat and press F10 but it doesn't do anything!

And by the way, I nearly forgot to reply to the bit where you said about the cheat that unlocks every level.

Hopefully not too many people will see this. . .

Custom Level Folder

I'll just put that so it doesn't give it away. You'll know what I mean.

We all do ;)

Now then, congrats on beaten Dragged Up! Considering I have 600+ videos you're bound to find MBP in there. Also search on youtube as well, as I did do Ring Stunts (it's actually a direct replication of the same level in YouTube [I think it's called Ring Stunts 2] by the same author, the only difference being the bouncy floor at the end) and others.

Tunnel Vision also has some videos (and was direct from MBG)...

Why am I saying all that, I'll just link:

Ring Stunts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJCwtxQZMKY - 35.01 by mkbul [MBP version] - The ending trick is very easy, you should have no trouble whatsoever.

Tunnel Vision:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM_-JoOS788 - 48.48 by Kostas [MBP Version] - Full route. Tunnel Vision is actually very easy because it's just path memorization where the Out of Bounds triggers are. Once you know that, it's simple.

I disabled GUI editor by modifying the source code for it. 1.10+ have it disabled as we don't want people taking away our scripts AND people kept doing F10 followed by F11 and F10 again which makes it unescapeable and thus they needed to shut down MBP manually, often losing their times or levels.

Intersting, they don't have a modify post button. Ha.

Anyway, Legendary Marbler would be me only as far as I know. Marble Master was achieved by Cam777.

Learn the Edge Hit has several videos, your pick:

Matan, how long have you been playing Marble Blast for?

Just a few more questions -

With the Leaderboards achievement tip of the week, is it considered cheating to use the level editor whilst offline, to find the Easter Egg, then go back onto leaderboards and get it?

I can sort of understand how to add a new time to beat. (Like MBP added the 'Ultimate Time'.) But the scripts just seem so complicated and there seem to be so many new things to add that it just dazzles my mind every time I try! How exactly do you do it?

1) Marble Blast for 3.75 years, almost 4.

2) LBs Achievement: no

3) This actually involved both CS and GUI. I've had some outside help to do it fully as I missed a couple of spots but otherwise was good. Most of the additions were done by Spy47 though.

Mustn't take very long to get good at the game; I've played it for nearly three years.

Does Spy47 even go onto the MB forums?

only on www.marbleblast.com but he's mainly in MSN.
