Plumber game

by Isaac Barbosa · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 10/24/2008 (2:24 pm) · 19 replies

I was having an idea last night but I don't know if it is good or not.

There is a world populated with meat-eating plants and evil turtles (some of them can fly because they have wings and other ones just can walk). So there is a heroe that must collect some coins scattered through the world and must deal with the turtles. Luckily there will be some power ups as mushrooms that can help the plumber it his quest.

It's just an idea and I don't know if will be a good idea go further and develop this into a game. Suggestions are welcomed :)

What a stupid idea! It would never fly. People want realism in games and meat-eating plants and flying turtles with mushroom power-ups are completely and totally out of sync with the gamers' desire for realism! Such a game would never fly! I can't believe you even thought of such a preposterous thing!

(I wish I'd thought of it first and cornered the non-realistic niche market! Damn you Barbosa!)

That's a shame because it seems a cool idea at first glance :(

So let me think in something else to put my developing efforts into.

How about this one. You are a fairy boy dressed in green that is trying to find these three different elements. We'll call it Triangle Force or something cool like that. The princess of the kingdom split this Triangle Force into eight pieces and hid them in dungeons. You can get compasses and maps in these dungeons to find your way. You can also find neat new ways to kill the "bosses" that are guarding the Triangle Force pieces. He can then defeat the big boss Canon and save the princess.

Nah. It'd never work, either. People want Crytek 3 realism.

Wow, that seems pretty cool!

Hope to see that game soon!

Hahahaha

I was joking David! I'm just to tired after several programming hours and I believe it was a cool idea to start this thread ;)

I know! I just thought it would be more fun to rain on the parade of some of the games that have defined gaming for a couple of generations of console gamers instead of going with the "YEAH! AWESOME IDEA!" track!

It will be the greatest thing to live in my life if I just can found an idea as Zelda or Super Mario...

Maybe some day.

Or Zelda ;)

But seriously, it's not OK to start a paragraph these days with "You are a fairy boy" lol.
Good thing it's Friday!!

I like Davids brand of sarcasm / humor. I was laughing the instant I read the first sentence.

Games all seem to be about the Good vs Evil in some fashion or other. Even old time movies, the Bad guy loses because of some hero.
Taking the other side of that Token would be against the grain and might be just as impossible to sell the idea of a Bad guy winning over the Good guy, maybe even dangerous depending on the game style and the addiction factor.

Hey why not make different shaped blocks that you have to spin around to fit into slots that fall from the sky?

It's neither Good nor Bad guy.. sort of middle ground. LOL.

I have been thinking since this thread first posting that the secret for success in a game is simplicity and fun. So I have reclused myself for several days to try to catch a simple and addictive idea and I think I got something interesting that may be well accepted by most people:

There is a simple maze that player can view from top and there are a yellow guy that is always hungry and since the maze is fulfilled with some eatable dots the objective of the game is to eat all the dots avoiding a pack of semi smart ghost that can be of diferent colors. If a ghost touch our yellow guy the game will be over.

But after writing this idea, I don't know if it will be good or not. I will try with a prototype soon. And I will try some power ups to be able to eats the ghost also.

Feedback on this idea will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Isaac, if you are referring to me, I am not Amaranthia. She is much cooler than me and owns her own game studio. I'm just a GG lackey. ^_^

Plumber Combat, I am sure we would get sued hardcore, and its kinda done already in Super Smash Brawl, but I would love to see a 3d Pipe and Mushroom world with Battle Plumbers throwing fireballs and kicking turtles at each other.

Escape down a pipe, up another, turn water on and off (He is a plumber for crying out loud, time he did his job) and flood the level...yeahhhhh........

Actually for a college project 2 years back, I took mario out of mario world and put pacman into his place.

The Original concept was too use stars to eat spiky things, and mushrooms to give him "teeth" to let him eat through tunnels etc, he could chew up vines but then they were gone and he couldn't get back down. Only thing he had to do to eat a normal critter was face it.

Turned out quite fun, didn't make him eat the flagpole at the end of the level (ran out of time) but it was a cute little crossover game.

Battle Plumbers.....mmmm

Chad.
