Badly lit .dif

I've got a box, hollowed using the hollow tool with walls thickness 2.0
I put portals in all the walls and the interiorrendermode shows a proper inside and outside. all the portals have ambient 0 set, to not allow outside light to enter.
It looks good in constructor, no lights have been added to the .dif
However, one inside wall is brightly lit. This happened even after I remade the entire .dif from scratch.
The .dif has no walls or windows, and I am looking to make a 100% contained and portalized box basically, so I can completely control the lighting inside.
I exported with map2difplus for TGE, the only exporter which seemed to bring in the portals.
Any hints as to what could be going wrong?
Also, if you were going to make a 100% contained box, how would you do it differently? It will never be visible from the outside, only the inside is important.
