Discount for TGBX version?

by SteveY · in TGB Platformer Kit · 09/11/2008 (1:54 pm) · 2 replies

Hi,

Purchased this and realized it doesn't work with TGBX, is there a discount for the TGBX version (noticed it is also cheaper and supports windows, XBox 360) since I already have the TGB version? I didn't know about the TGBX version until someone told me about it after purchasing the XNA CC and didn't see it when I purchased the PSK on this page http://www.garagegames.com/makegames/.

Thanks,
Steve

Let's clear up the acronyms first. There are two products: Torque Game Builder (TGB) and TorqueX (TX). The TX version of the platformer kit was released first and Philip O'Shea undertook a lot of pain and programming talent to make the platformer kit for TGB. The codebase is completely different (of course since one is in C# for XNA and the other is for TGB, which is a C++ and TorqueScript engine). There isn't really a 1:1 comparison between the two since they come from different development backgrounds. They share assets and some core functionality, but that is about as close as it gets.

Ah ok thanks, my mistake I kept calling it Torque Game Builder X instead of Torque X since for some reason that is what I thought/remember that what it used to be called. Thanks for the clarification. I tried importing the TGB into torque game builder x via the option in Torque X Builder 2D and wasn't successful. Ended up checking here and saw there was a version for TorqueX. Didn't realize the TX version came out first. I don't come here too often. I understand that Philip did a lot of work and I appreciate it, but I thought there may have been a discount since I've seen some before and figure it wouldn't hurt to ask.....I don't mind buying both :), since the current version I own works great, but doesn't import to TX via the "Import TGB to Torque X project" option. Anyways, keep up the good work Philip and I look forward to more products from you. I'll chuck it up and purchase the TX version as well.
