Max2dts exportor for max 8 or 9

I just got max 8 and tried exporting a model in max 8 but I just can't seem to get it to work and export any thing. Can some one please help me out! If you can give me the directly steps on how to do it. I'm kinda new to the exporter in max. So if you can break it down in lam mens!
