Question about Realmwars

by Bill Gower · in General Discussion · 06/09/2008 (9:51 am) · 13 replies

I am trying to download the source code using WinCVS 1.2. I am using my correct username and password and it won't connect and keeps coming back with exit code 1 which is the code for incorrect username or password. Considering that I can connect to GG that can't be right. Is the download for Realmwars source code no longer available?

CVS services has been dead for a few years now. I'm not sure about the Realm Wars source though. Someone else can maybe answer that part.

CVS has been dead for years now. The RW source has been made available in the past by some of the people involved in the project back in the day, but I haven't seen much action on that front recently.

EDIT: Source not allowed in public forum.

Bill, which engine do you use? 1.5.2, right? If you e-mail me I'll send you the link. infinitum3d at nospam_hotmail

Whoa! Time to start paying attention.

Sheesh. What the heck? How did I even come across this thread?

Thanks Ted! Way to make me feel stupid *lol*

Tony,

Is the source for Realm Wars open? I was looking at their page the other day and all the links for downloads were dead.

I learn by seeing how others do things. I would be interested in seeing what they have if it is available and ok to do so.

@Chris: Look here, what you want is post#23, the password is included in the post.

One link is for the source code, the other is for the client/server scripts. No assets although you may be able to find some on a couple of German RW clan sites I found about half a year ago.

Thanks again Michael. I'm just interested in how they went about doing things. Like the splash screen I saw the scripts for it on TDN, and i recognized they were using an array to switch between them, but they had two separate files that I couldn't get to work and I knew there had to be a way to put them all in just my startupgui.gui.

By looking at your code, I found out how to put them in one file! That is primarily what I am interested in with realmwars. I just want to see how they did things so I can learn from that.

I figure with the GPGT book and being able to look at real live examples I will be off to a great start on my own prototype.

Learning from the examples in front of me is how I got started. Being a long-time Tribes modder was of great benefit once I discovered Torque :D I did learn a few things/tricks from perusing that RW code, so hopefully it will be a good example for you. I hear good things about that GPGT book.

I think that the GPGT book is absolutely outstanding. It's written in a way that works for me, by explaining what things do and then doing examples. Some books tend to take the "learn by example" to far and just give a basic explantion then a code snipet.

As of right now besides Torque, I couldn't have made a better an investment than I did by purchasing GPGT.

Currently only one 'clan' site still running. :(
