GG please give us collada support

At this point, there is no hope for an XSI exporter. However XSI and almost anything else does do collada. Please show us some mercy and deliver us from the curse of dts.

I'm quite disappointed of the choice to spend effort on Houdini. I'm sure its a fine package but once again, it is yet another app that costs an fortune if you want to use it for commercial purposes. If we had collada support, it seems all these choices would be moot and folks could use what they like and already know. Please add native collada models to the engines.

Most likely that will happen will be a Collada to DTS compiler like utility. It seems Collada does deserve a real good look into being supported by some implementation or another. From what I've read around on the forums the real problem is understanding the DTS format and how to generate DTS files. It isn't very well understood except by a few people.

Well we did have someone working on an Exporter for XSI.
I am going to see if I can drum one up. Again as I said in another thread that there will be no promises and it will take time as I am not a seasoned programmer. I am creating code for my company and that has me pretty much taxed at the moment. However any help or info will be greatly appreciated.

Update:
Matt is going to release a new XSI plugin that should do the job.
I am still working on my own version as it will be an exersize in programing.

GG should be putting out the exporters for the different 3D software packages. Is there not an XSI one out, because I've been spending alot of money on XSI video tutorials so that I can start putting out some 3D resource packages.

As Brett and Matt have mentioned Collada will be the official import format for generating DTS models in Torque 3D.

Trust me... your gonna really like it. ;)

Just to expand upon what Tom said, the way the Collada support works is that you can load native DAE files into Torque3D, there is no need to convert them to DTS.

While that is pretty exciting news for some, I would still recommend that you continue to look into DTS/DSQ and DIF for a lot of your models simply because Collada is a pretty immature format that still has a lot of goofy issues with regards to how various companies write Collada (DAE) from their DCC apps (as in it makes you want to smash your head into a desk repeatedly because of all the dumb crap).

I thought I would also note that you can use Houdini with Torque and sell your games. The implication in the original post was that one could not do that without upgrading. Now, if you use another engine or want to use another format like FBX, then you will need to upgrade.

You will need to purchase the Houdini Apprentice for $99 before you can use it with Torque.
XSI mod tool is free.
