Has anyone bought the new Torque book? Any comments?

Does he cover a lot of the engine code as was promised?

I haven't gotten there yet but, yes, the back half of the book appears to cover engine topics. He covers the "deeper" engine objects that are used as a basis for all other engine objects: GameBase, SceneObject, and such like that. He does not appear to cover some of the "implementation" objects like Player. I believe this is with good reason, as individual games have radically different needs in those areas, and thus you should be modifying them to suite your needs. Those more base-level engine objects, however, shouldn't need to be modified (much) but it is important to understand the functionality they provide you.

Does anyone know if they ship this book to the uk and how much it costs if they do. I'd really like to get my hands on it.

I'm interested in buying this and have the cash to spare but I was wondering how usefull it would be to me now that ive just bought tgea. I want to mainly use this from now on so will the book still be of use? I havnt yet realised the difference between the two engines.

The book will still be extremely useful, even if all the code examples and such aren't exactly the same.

I think it's going to be a big help.

Mine arrived yesterday. I was a little hesitant to order because of the table of contents, but I went and did it anyway based on the quality of his first book (actually turned in a big bottle of pennies to pay for it!). After reading the chapter on AI and skimming the rest, I have to say the book looks pretty good. It appears there is a lot of content (at least all the exercises) on the accompanying CD which I haven't had a chance to look at. I think it's going to be a big help.
