Inverting camera controls?

Is there any way to invert the translate and rotate camera tools (the ones in the upper-right corner of each viewport window)? The controls seem to work opposite of how they should. Coming from Lightwave to Constructor is difficult because the controls are opposite. I know Constructor isn't Lightwave, but it sure looks like it. :) Seriously though, if there's anyway to do this, that would be cool.

To clarify, if I rotate the camera to the left, that I am actually moving the camera around the target point to the left, so the ground plane and objects should rotate to the right. Also, if I translate to the left, the camera should move to the left (making everything else move to the right).

There are options to invert mouse rotation and translation under System | Preferences, but those don't seem to do anything; I'm assuming they affect something else.
