Constructor 1.05 for Windows

by Jaimi McEntire · in Constructor · 05/31/2008 (8:33 pm) · 51 replies

Constructor 1.05 is released on the TDN Page:

tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Constructor

Here is what is new:

1. Brush selection is now signifantly faster (problem in notification code)
2. Ability to reset brushes from the brush properties page. This completely rebuilds the brush
and resets the texture information. This can fix junk brushes. Note that brushes that
are way out of whack may not be able to be fixed, and may result in wildly out of control
faces. You will need to delete these, they will cause export errors anyway.
3. Ability to Correctly load all LOD's for a map at one time (File/Open File Set).
4. Some additional minor bugs/changes (did not document - Sorry!).

Of all of these, #2 is probably the most important -- this should fix all known errors on a brush, if it is fixable. I loaded all of the problem maps that people have sent me, and this fixed every single brush, except for one. And this brush was a known bad brush causing export errors (I save the bad maps with export errors so I can test).

Please note: If you download this, and the version # doesn't change, just delete the version.cs.dso file and try again. It's 1.05. I swear.

The performance is innumerably faster for me as well, on Vista. Great patch.

@Jaimi...I have installed the upgrade and have been tinkering with it for a few minutes, now I'm on the scene with the bad roof,...I have it on textured/mapped and the whole scene is black, when I put it on shaded it is shaded but mapped doesn't seem to map scene. When I load another scene, such as my log hut, it looks fine.

Leaving it on shaded, I decided to try the reset brush function with the roof selected, it doesn't do anything it just hangs up, and I have to close constructor....

Its got some bug, we have some bad faces with no collision bugs like the original 1.0.3. Other then that its really had some improvements. Can we get a list of what was actually improved. Also, has anyone maybe considered some addition prefab packs?

@All: Unfortunately for me, my 8800GTS died last night on my main box, so I am unable to work on Constructor until I get it RMA'd. I'm not sure how long this takes with XFX.

@Meyou: There may be some problem with lightmaps needing to be fixed - I'll look into this. For now, work i in shaded mode, fix the roof with the rest brush, then save it, and reopen the file. Then you can work in mapped mode again. I think switching back and forth between shaded/mapped mode can cause a problem. I was able to fix the file that you sent, but I didn't try it in release mode. I'll try to duplicate the problem here.

@Edward: I don't think I changed anything with the bsp tree this time. I did enable fast-floating point mode - maybe I need to change it back to strict. Seemed safe since fp is always working on the fpu...

@Jaimi...Ok..I have updated...I might need some sleep I was trying to fix the scene from being black and finally punched the 'NONE' button...wew....now to the texturing...

...ok...I select the roof and hit reset brush but constructor hangs up and I finally have to close it out...

@Meyou - sorry, I was editing the post when my daughter came up and needed attention... Hopefully I can get my video card back and look into this soon.

@Jaimi...no problem...I don't have kids but I do understand...ok I'm back on it now and I copied the roof and pasted into another scene and it did fine...I haven't tinkered with the texturing yet but the brush is reset...

@jaimi...when you have time you might need to give me a few pointers on texturing this roof....it seems to be doing the same thing. after resetting the brush the message box says to validate texture coordinates and faces. when you have time...no rush...you have seen this roof before and I think you said you had gotten it to texture properly in one of the emails...

@Meyou:

Once I selected the brush, and reset it, I was able to scale and translate the brush without problems. I didn't need to do anything special. I'll download 1.05 and see if perhaps something was introduced in the release build that wasn't there in the debug build. (I still have your map in my mail account).

@Jaimi...when I installed the latest update I did a clean install of 1.03 and installed the 1.04 patch. I skipped the first 1.05 patch and went directly to the new one...should I go back and install all of the patches? I figured the new patch had everything the other one did...

@Meyou:

The 1.05 patch is inclusive, you only need to install the base 1.03, and then go straight to 1.05. I'm able to duplicate the lockup problem, but I can't get to the source code to fix it yet. Sorry.

@Jaimi...thats ok it is pretty easy to get around...still haven't got the texture to act right it still scales when shifting...

@Jaimi...now it's hanging up bad, I can't do anything without it locking up. Last night it was just locking up when resetting the brush now its doing it in more places...
