Picking the right engine

by GamerWill · in Torque Game Engine · 05/18/2008 (5:57 am) · 7 replies

Howdy Im looking for an engine for my game project. I have a small team and we were looking at torque engine advanced. Looks awesome but a couple of us have xna experience so torqueX looks even cool. Now Im a bit confused on torque X. the video is 3d, but it says not yet supported? So just wondering before we start paying.

sorry if this is wrong area. - William

TorqueX is pretty new tech and the 3D parts are even newer. Documentation is pretty slim at the moment. Also, the 3D editor for TX is still in development (at the moment, you would have to hand-edit XML files AFAIK). That's a number of things to keep in mind.

Yes, TGE, TGEA, and TGB are all written in C++ and come with full source.

Awesome thanks so much. One more stupid question. we wont be getting into engine till next summer, I dont think. We are in early stages of pre production and all work. So do you think any chance torqueX will work as well as TGEA with 3d by then?

Any ideas? It seems as it should be, because I notice 3d tutorials.

TorqueX is a 3d engine. Its just, as Rene said, slim on 3d documentation and no 3D editor yet.

Ya but just wondering if that will becoming soon, but im sure if Im patient I will see for myself :p

other note is on the graphics capability of tgea. If there is way to compare its strength to another engine more mainstream it be apreciated. I know it isnt like Unreal3, but maybe like source's hammer engine?

Would like to know if it can handle the poly cout and detail of most my models.

Lowest Is around(sometimes it goes higher depending on model):

    characters (playable) 4-5K
    characters(npc) 3-4K
    weapons(fp) 2-3K
    weapons(tp) 1K
