Ski node

I'm just wondering if anyone knew how exactly ski nodes work in Torque. I know that ski nodes allow the player to ski across the terrain, but when looking at the various player DTS files most of the ski nodes are not at ground level.
Does anyone know why they were placed higher in the foot (around the ankle) rather than at the bottom like on the heel?

Ski nodes, were used for the death animations. Basically the nodes would make sure the model of the character would line up parrallel with the ground on death, that way you'd have no funky vertical or floating bodies on death. Here's a url to explain it more, http://www.narcissisticstudios.com/tutorials/pmodel.htm go down to step 4; this could explain the placement of the ski nodes.
