1.7 sound oddity

I am having a couple of sound issues that I am having trouble tracking down, and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing them or knows how I can solve them.
Issue #1:
Whenever I switch to first person my sounds become muffled and sound distant, I have tested this in the demos that are included with the engine and it is happening there too, not just in my game.
Issue#2:
I get odd popping sounds at times when I am running around in the game, almost as if there were an electrical short in my speakers (which isnt the case as I get this on multiple computers). This only happens when the the player is moving around.
Any ideas/info/ or confirmation on either of these is most welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

Desktop: integrated Realtek AC'97
Dell Laptop: SigmaTel C-Major
Friends Computer: Microsoft Sound System (no system sound card required, requires only USB)
All 3 computers are running Microsoft Windows XP SP2 with the latest DirectX 9.0c and all 3 experience the popping issue. I have noticed that none of the demo levels that ship with the engine seem to do it, only the ones we make, even though they are built straight off of the demo stronghold or t3d examples.

I haven't heard of the other issue, but I will make a note of it. Thanks for reporting these.
