Tge Or Tgea

by Michael Rowley · in Torque Game Engine · 04/14/2008 (9:46 am) · 2 replies

After poking around the forums and the site it seems that TGE 1.42 is old and dated.
Will TGE continue to get support or should i just upgrade to the newest 1.52 Whats the difference? i can't find a bullet list of TGE vs TGEA or TGE 1.42 vrs TGE 1.52
Also, anyone know when the 3d version of the C# engine Torqe X will be out or how i can get in on beta/
THanks

This is my summary of the differences but I'm pretty ignorant so hopefully someone else in the community can give a better overview:
TGE 1.5.2 is like TGE 1.4 but it has the lighting kit "built-in", more art, and general bug-fixes and improvements. No more updates will be done on 1.4, all updates will be with 1.5.X.
TGEA used to be TGE with shaders and atlas, but it's a lot more then that now (mega terrains, polysoup collision, better docs,...). There are a few recent employee blogs, and a dev shot about it so I won't say too much, but it is pretty kick ass.
I think a number of the improvements made to TGEA will make there way into TGE (and TGB). Basically TGEA is more high end, and not OpenGL, while TGE is still multi-format and caters for lower spec machines.

A large number of people are still working in TGE.

For information on the new features, check out the "what's new" section:
TGE 1.5

2.0 has the 3D engine incorporated into it, though we are still working on the documentation. You can download the free binary version now:
