GROME Mission Exporter

by Lykon · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/22/2008 (12:34 pm) · 4 replies

I remember reading that the GROME terrain creation software was planning to create a full fledged mission exporter, that is to say that one could not only create the ATLAS2 terrain in GROME but also place and export the various mission assets, players, buildings, boxes, et al.

Has anyone heard anything more about this? And if so does anyone know when such an editor would be available?

According to a post on their forums they are working on making it so that you can bake DTS shadows onto the atlas terrain from their exporter onto the lightmap. I'm not sure about the other stuff. Their editor is great though, I bought it a couple weeks ago and it's the best I've used. I also own licenses for L3DT, Vue, Leveller, and Freeworld. But Grome is by far my favorite, though it is also the pricest (along with Vue).

So you would say it is worth the additional money for Grome over something like L3DT? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that they were working on a mission exporter for Torque...that would be perfect for me. So they want to allow dts shadows to be baked in, currently they allow Collada object's shadows to be baked in don't they?

Yeah it works for Collada now, but they are working on a system so that it can natively load your dts shapes and then export them properly into a mission file.

Yeah, that is what I am especially excited about...although I am still a bit wary about the price tag!!! I suppose it would be worth it to be able to edit the Atlas terrain, put in the DTS shapes, bake in the shadows, and export the whole thing into a Mission file.
