Trying to understand TGE

by Scott Shorter · in Torque Game Engine · 03/20/2008 (12:56 pm) · 6 replies

Hi folks, extreme Torque newb posting.

I'm very interested in TGE and the MMO kit, but I want to understand what I would get with that. Does the TGE include software for building 3D models, or does that need to come from another tool?

I'm handy with Sketchup and I notice that Sketchup Pro will export to 3DS format - what other tools should I consider, especially on the inexpensive end?

Thanks all,
Scott

You have to build the models separately

maybe you can use something like Milkshape to take it from 3ds and convert it to DTS

But do the tools to build the model come with TGE?

I just found Torque Constructor and that seems to be a good start for interiors - can it do objects as well? If not, what other tool could?

No, no and milkshape. There are other tools that will work if you don't like milkshape. Check out the torque art public forums if you need more detail.

How about Blender with DTSExporter?

Yeah Blender is a good tool too. Especially if you are new to modeling and don't have any bad habits or expectations. I couldn't get used to Blender and prefer Milkshape, but I've seen a lot of people that swear by it. Best of all its free and in many ways more powerful!
