Blender Pose Mode Question

I have been trying to get a simple model(Cube) to export with animation but am failing miserably..
I have went through a video tutorial on animating a static shape " The Radat tutorial" I can add an armature and then make my model a child of it.
I then select armature as the parent from menu and select "Create from Closest Bones".
From what I have read, I should be able to then go into Pose mode and Rotate the Bone which should make my Cube rotate. I can't ever get my model to follow the Bone in Pose Mode.
I have read alot about having to animate the "active bone" and not the armature but can't seem to get anything to move or rotate with my bone while in Pose mode.
(Blender 2.45 by the way)..
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Also, bonus points for another question:: Does anyone else have alot of Blender crashes while trying to left-click and select text to edit names of objects or filenames...
I can get it to crash every time by just trying to edit any textbox and leftclick drag selecting the text..

After creating the Armature, I have to select the bone and put it in Pose Mode then Deselect it.
I then can select my object and shift select the Bone and use CTRL-P tp Parent it.
At that point, it now gives me the option to Parent to "Bone". If I select that instead of Armature, it will let me use pose mode to move my object with bone..

Possibly found the solution..After creating the Armature, I have to select the bone and put it in Pose Mode then Deselect it.

The video tutorials rock!

This happened to me as well, though when I moved the bone around my upper meshes moved with it. A closer look showed that though I had specified Create from closest bones, not all the vertexes had been assigned to the bone. I reattached them in boxmode and it worked. The video tutorials rock!

I did the radar tutorial and found that when I chose "Create from Closest Bones" it only selected some of the vertices so I just made the armature alot bigger and it worked. Probably not the best solution but it was a quick fix for that simple animation heh.
