Web Developer Contract Cost

Greetings all. I am looking to post a Help Wanted Ad here at GG in regard to having someone help get our flash based website up and running. We have a template and the information we want posted.

What we are lost on is how much we should offer for the contract. Should we allow developers to set their fee, or post a number to generate interest?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I think you should set an estimated fee of your own, make it kind of in between low and high considering the size and complexity of the project, and post a side note that contractors may suggest their own fees. I actually found interest in this post and would like to know if I can be of any assistance.

@Kevin - Thanks for the advice and the interest. Unfortunately, this website was tied to my dev team (Zombie Shortbus). I disbanded the team and will be focusing entirely on my doc work for GG.

Do you already have all of the Flash content or do you need it developed as well? Do you need database interaction for user login, etc?

Personally, I like the idea of having a low-bar and hi-bar estimate of what you think the work is worth and how much you are willing to pay for it. That way people can make a decision as to whether or not it is worth their time for the wage you are willing to pay. Who knows, you might find someone who loves Flex/Flash and will do it for free or a really low price!

Again, some pretty good advice. Thanks David =)

Maybe when I crawl out of my documentation hole I'll consider this project again, and post some numbers in this thread. To be continued...
