Someone pirated the engine

by XD · in General Discussion · 01/24/2008 (11:07 am) · 13 replies

The owner of sithous.com has pirated the TGE and has admitted it on a game called Age of Time. He plans on releasing the game on the pirated engine sometime soon. And also, Ephialtes (A member at Eric Hartmans forums) and can also confirm this too.

I'm sure this happens all the time, I don't think its something anyone here can prevent either. Its hardly worth bringing to these forums.

Anyone lazy enough to be a thief is no threat to actually release a game.

Noted. We're looking into it. Any information that you have, send to me via e-mail.

Sadly this wouldn't be the first time an indivuals and/or team has pirated Torque and then released the game they made with it and it probably will not be the last. I am not sure why teams think that they can get away with this, be it one reason or another, but its pretty low. Personally I wish there would be more public "outing" of these individuals or companies, but thats just me. But I am sure that now that you have brought this to GG's attention they will be watching what the guy does very closely, waiting for the moment to pounce and say "time to pay up dumbass".

The guy XD is reporting is just some stupid 13 year old kid who's claiming he made the interiors/models that come in the fps starter kit, all he's done is move a couple of trees around (from what i can see in the screenshot) and add a login resource - its really nothing too significant to follow up, David.

There's tons of people from Blockland over here - with all those modders, everyone wants to script, so everyone finds out about Torque, so everyone comes and buys it. Like me :D !

Edit: That probably seems really out of context, the forum he talked about in the main post is the Blockland forum.

I own Sithous.com, i had no intention of releasing a game without buying Torque Game Engine.

The one that said i "Pirated" TGE is no more then a minor that didn't understand my intentions.

Sure you can check my site constantly. But you will find that if ANYTHING is released, it will be no where near illegal. And if you don't believe me, then check my site all you want.

Plus i need an engine with more capabilities then torque.
(I am not saying torque isn't great, i have been programming with torque for 6 years)

But anyways, sorry for the inconvenience.

Interesting! You didn't pirate TGE or Torque, yet you have used it for 6 years and you account you have has nothing to show that you are a Torque owner. Interesting too that you don't know if you are Skylar or Skylord. Site isn't much from what I've seen though. Guys, David has to look into it. Anyone using Torque with no license means that they owe GG money that can be put back into developing T3D and future Torques.

That's a disturbing portrait similar to the attitude that keeps cropping up recently. Licenses and rights -- ach! those are so lame, if I mod it enough then it's mine! :(

Regardless of intention, the point is that he has source code access without owning an engine license. That is a violation of the EULA. Any response to this Skylar?
