For the past 48 hours I have sporadically received the following error when attempting to access the forums

Service Unavailable

the reference number keeps changing.

Is there an issue with the website?

I get that too when I try to logon, sometimes.

Yeah, it's been like that for me too lately. Perhaps it was the Legions Announcement?

Geomagnetic Storms?

Someone forgot to carry the one at the server stations...? 00000001

Could be. In honor of the announcement I played Tribes the other night, and as a re-newby, held up traffic at the equipment stations for quite a while.

Hopefully they have fixed whatever it was, be it geomagnetic storms, solar flares, alien invasions... This is the first time I've been able to get into the forums for the last 2 hours. :(.

I haven't been able to access this site for hours with Firefox, but was able to on the first try with Internet Explorer.

I haven't had a problem getting on the forum.

I've been getting this error consistently for the past few days... it appears to be working now, though.

I've seen a few bug reports about this, but haven't been able to replicate it in FF or IE. Lucky me, I guess.

Have you heard of anyone else having this problem? I've seen a few support requests about it, but was wondering if anyone here has had PM's or chats about problems with it?

I've been having it happen pretty regular the last couple days in FF v2.0.0.11. It's happened mostly in the mornings, which I attributed to Rick not being awake yet to fix it.

I've had it happen very often over the past week with Safari 3.04. It mostly seems to happen when I try searching for something and the link fails and then I can't access the forums at all for a while, however sometimes even when I begin by going directly to the forums I can't get in. Sometimes it works for a couple minutes, fails for a minute, comes back for a minute, fails again. I haven't noticed a pattern to the time of day when it happens. I know I couldn't get in for a while early yesterday evening and again early this afternoon.

I think someone must have forgotten to feed the poor little hamsters, and now that they are not making the little wheel go around the batteries are failing.

This problem has been frequent, but intermittent here. Only access to the forums seems to be involved, I can go and access my account, look at the store, etc. but afterwards still not be able to read any messages from the forum.

I try later, maybe it works and maybe it doesn't. Eventually it does (and right now, obviously, yes). But it has been more or less a crapshoot for several days now.

For the last 2 days it has been happening off an on. I've been running Opera 9 for a good while and it just started happening, so its not just firefox/ie

I have been having the same issue for the past week or so. Here is a screenie:

I've now had people complain about it in Safari, IE, Firefox, and Opera as well as the Wii Opera (don't ask why they were surfing GG on their Wii). I still don't know any more about the why's than I did before.

Well, you know it's apparently not browser-specific. That's something! I know... it's not much.

I'm not having any problems at the moment. I wonder if you guys recently changed any java or javascript code which may need the cache manually cleared so it can update? I always surf GG via Firefox, so when I couldn't get on with it and tried IE, it probably would have just downloaded the new code ...
At least, that's a theory. ;)

I would look in the server logs first, were I trying to solve the problem. Someone designed that error message and reference number for a reason, and whatever condition causes it has apparently greatly increased in frequency lately.

Off again, on again for me... this is a problem and it's not related to web browser brand or anything like that... possibly it has something to do with the Akamai Edge load balancing?

I'm AFK for the next ten days on my annual Caribbean sailing trip, but when I get back if there's anything I can do to help resolve this issue then I'll be here... feel free to contact me via e-mail and/or IRC (nick SgtFlame)
