Hey All,
is it possible for the show tool pro to display environmental maps or normal maps?
Thanks for any help.

I don't believe so. It was based on TGE rather than TGEA.

Hmmmmmmm -
I know TGE is supposed to support normal maps
do I just load these onto the displacement channel on export
and view them "in game"
-Im laughing to myself right now because I know how crazy that sounds

hmmmmmm
how can I as a artist (non programmer) check normal and enviromental reflection maps "in game"
with out working along side a programmer

thanks for any suggestions

James,
Stock TGE (which showtool is based on) does NOT support normal mapping without a number of code changes. I used the Modernization Kit just to get normals and the like in a stock TGE 1.5.2. Now you could be mistaking TGE for TGEA. They are two completely (Well in the render pipeline anyway) different engines. TGEA uses DirectX to render the effects. TGEA does share some common code with TGE, this is why Showtool can be used to view TGEA and TGE .dif format models.
So, Showtool is not able to show normals or reflections in it's viewport because its built around stock TGE.

@Ron but if you run the TGEA.exe file with -show command line it will run in show tool pro mode, am I right?

Khaled,

You could be correct. I really have not played around with TGEA at all. Other than looking at the demo. I guess I would say try it and see what happens :-)

Ron,
thanks for the info.
man, some times its hard being a lowly max/torque artist
you want so much for so little.
But this gets me on the right track.
Now we need to update Show tool Pro to display environmental maps and normal maps
someone get David on the line......

Showtool pro displays env maps. You need to run your dts through unmessdts, as env maps are mildly "broken" without that step. Then in showtool, you need to hit the env map button, which is the button that says "EM".

unmessdts can be found on this page
