22-24 LCD clarity

For a while now I've been doing all of my modeling and graphic work on an old 15' IBM LCD and I'm ready for an upgrade. I'm considering an upgrade to a wide screen LCD in the 22-24 inch range. However at that size I'm beginning to be concerned about clarity. Is a monitor that big going to be hard on my eyes when doing detail work?
As far as price is concerned I'm happier with a smaller monitor. I've been looking at 22' LCDs on new egg. I'm leaning towards an Acer monitor with these specs.

Screen Size 22"
Widescreen Yes
Maximum Resolution 1680 x 1050
Recommended Resolution 1680 x 1050
Viewing Angle 170
[Edit: apparently I somehow deleted the last half of the post.]
My question is this. Will 1680 x 1050 provide me with a clear picture? Or would it be wise to shell out the cash for a 24 in with a 1920 x 1200 resolution?
