Calling all Christian Developers

by Brandon Fogerty · in Jobs · 12/14/2007 (8:31 pm) · 39 replies

Hello. My name is Brandon and I would like to develop some Christian based video games. I am a Christian and I think that it is no wonder that the Bible has always been the #1 best seller. It is the best true story ever told! I have seen Christian games and only one has struck me. That would be Timothy and Titus. I believe that with a good Christian Development team, we could develop very fun and educational games about Christ and GOD's word.

I really want to spread GOD's word through the video game industry. As for me, I am a game programmer. If you are interested in my skills, check out my personal homepage.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but the bible is not the #1 bestseller. Harry Potter easily kicked the bible's ass even with a gay character.

@Derry,

I hear some good ones now and again, but that probably took the cake. Here is a little bit more accurate information:

Quote:The Bible
"No one really knows how many copies of the Bible have been printed, sold, or distributed. The Bible Society's attempt to calculate the number printed between 1816 and 1975 produced the figure of 2,458,000,000. A more recent survey, for the years up to 1992, put it closer to 6,000,000,000 in more than 2,000 languages and dialects. Whatever the precise figure, the Bible is by far the bestselling book of all time."

As quoted by "The Internet Public Library" from The Top 10 of Everything, 1997 (DK Pub., 1996, pp 112-113.)

Yeah, that's nine zeros...there will always be blips on the radar, but they will always pale...

Yes, but how many of those instances did money actually change hands? It doesn't count as a "sale" if there's no *selling* involved.

Yeah, but we are talking about sales here. He didn't say "#1 most printed" or "#1 most given away." Certainly the Gideons have given away millions of bibles, but that doesn't translate into sales.

Maybe this isn't the place for this kind of debate. Brandon was looking for Christian developers, not a flame war (though his statements may be offensive to some people of different beliefs).

Yeah, well he started out saying "the Bible has always been the #1 best seller. It is the best true story ever told! " and "I am a Christian and I think that it is no wonder that the Bible has always been the #1 best seller." which to me is someone trying to push their beliefs on others.

@Phillip, didn't intend my post as any sort of "flaming" (though yeah you're right, this is derailing). I'm just sayin', is all.

I am not trying to push my beliefs on anyone. I am trying to gather a Christian based team.... this is after all the team building forum. I should be able to post whatever I want here regarding building a team, which I have done. Furthermore, I could careless about other "beliefs", I am not interested in man made religions. And anyone not currently breaking GOD's second commandment should not be offended by what I said.

If anyone is interested in working with me, please send me an email! Thanks in advance!

Brandon, welcome to the community! Check out http://www.visionsgame.com/ for an online Christian game being made with the TGEA engine. They're a great team and the right goals and you can find some more likeminded people there. I checked out your resume, you sure do have a lot to offer any team :) Good luck bud, and nice job not letting these guys get to you :)

Tim Emmerich has had a conference each of the last few years:

Christian Game Developers Conference

I've meet Tim a few times at the IGC in Eugene and he is a nice guy.

Christian Coders was attacked by heavy Denial-of-service (DOS) yesterday or the day before. They are working on getting it back up. It's a terrific community. Keep checking the site, but I'm not sure when it will come back up.

Do you accept Mormon Christian game developers?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. It's the primary season, after all. :P

I've stated this before and I don't think I was very nice about it. I think I was kinda self righteous about. But, here's hopefully a more humble statement.

I wish that Christian's would stop trying to make money from their religion. I find it incredible sad that there have been billions of Bibles sold. They should have been given away free in my opinion. I base that opinion off of the words of Christ about the teachings he gave his disciples "freely you have been given, freely give". The scriptures, at the time of Christ, were not sold. They had been passed down freely from generation to generation for 2000 years. When the printing press was invented. The creators chose the Bible to print first. Why? Because for nearly 2000 years, the Bible was only available to a few wealthy people who could afford it. And the printing press was supposed to break the financially, and really, religous political barriers so that everyone could read the 'word' of God for themselves.

There have been people thru history who tried to make money off of the Christian religion. Jesus had to kick the asses of some of them. He called those people a thieves. Why? Because the words of God were meant to be free for humanity. Selling them is stealing from the people you take money from.

I know that today, where there's a giant industry of Christian merchandise, that it's not popular to say this stuff. I know it well. My family owned a chain of Christian gift stores. I know the behind the scenes of the Christian merchandise industry. I have close ties to the Christian music industry. Oh boy. Talk about a joke. For all their self righteous talk about how they are good Christian musicians, there's barely a difference between a modern Christian musician and a non-Christian musician when it comes to the sex and drugs. And the professional ministers of the giant sized churches who rake in millions. Please. See Christian mucisians.

I don't think there is anything wrong with making a 'Christian' game. I think there is something wrong with selling it as a 'Christian' game like it's supposed to be helping people for God but you get money from it.

That's my opinion. I know that many people who are also Christians disagree with my opinion. No big deal. It's not like I am Jesus and I'm going to kick their ass for selling what Christ commanded should be given freely. I wouldn't do that. Even though... yes... that IS what Jesus would do.

Umm, isn't this against the law? I mean seriously... Your only letting christians help you make a game. Some people are catholic (not sure if you knew but they have the EXACT same bible), some people are jewish, and some people are *insert other religion here*. Guess what, people from all religions have game designers, and it is against the law from keeping others from helping make your game(s). I am not saying there is anything wrong with making a christian game, but it is against the law from keeping some people from working for you, playing your game, living etc. just because they're another religion. Go read the part of the bible that says all people should be considered equals, then reconsider who works for you.

EDIT:

Quote:I am not interested in man made religions.
That is a VERY offensive thing to say...

Quote:It is the best true story ever told!
Other religions would think differently... Also very sad to say that your religion is the only true one.

Quote:Bible has always been the #1 best seller

The only reason for it being the #1 best seller, is because it was the first book ever made, and it was sold for 2000 years.

Quote:I really want to spread GOD's word through the video game industry.
It's sad that you need to sell what god said...

@Tyler Yeah I agree with you completely. I find Christians seem to often say things like that, that there religion is the one true religion. Its apart of their religious believe to think that. Because other wise you'd be wondering why there where so many religions before and all that.

As for : "It is the best true story ever told!" that's a seriously bold statement, and I think, it doesn't really make sense at all, when there are a lot of films and games already based on these stories yet there never very popular. Why? Because to be quite honest its damn boring, there all just Christians trying to spread there backward beliefs to the world, though mediums that are popular. To say its true, is one thing, to say its the best story is WAY over the top. And shows you must only read one book, a huge book but come on!

Look at the religious stories of the Greeks, these stories are told again and again, in big budget films and games. They are some of the best and long lasting stories. They have heroic and exciting stories, and that is shown by lasting through time and captivating people around the world. Where as Christian films and games are really just for Christians. Everyone knows the story, but does anyone care? There are no heros, no beasts to be slain. Usually just a bunch of weak characters on the run, no one likes cowards.

And they put the Greek stories in to the mythology section in book shops!

Yes that is true, I wonder why catholics aren't like that though, they share the same bible and they both believe in christainity.
