Tge Or Tgea

I want to use Torgue and cannot decide which engine to use. If I purchase the books are they going to be relevant to how TGEA works? Mainly I would rather pony up now than later, but I don't want to make the hill any steeper than it already is.
I have quite a bit of programming experience in C and networking experience, I just don't have a lot of experience with 3d engines. Thanks.

Go with TGE for now. TGEA is a bit stillborn and with the announcement of Torque 2, you may as well save that extra bit of cash and use it for the new product (which is clearly where all the development time is currently going), should you wish to continue using the Garage Games tools.

TGE and TGEA are still the engines in development and production status, and will be for quite some time. Torque 2 is in research and development status. Dev time is going into TGE and TGEA right now, as per Stephen's comments in another topic today. People shouldn't believe that either TGE or TGEA are dead in the water right now.

Different people may have different definitions of "dev time". We're not doing over-arching massive changes to TGE or TGE-A in any way--we are working on minor and major enhancements, optimizations, bug fixes, examples, some documentation reorganization, and other product related work efforts for our existing product lines.

Just to clarify briefly on David's paraphrase:Different people may have different definitions of "dev time". We're not doing over-arching massive changes to TGE or TGE-A in any way--we are working on minor and major enhancements, optimizations, bug fixes, examples, some documentation reorganization, and other product related work efforts for our existing product lines.

Is what Derry posted a valid usage? If I would upgrade TGE to TGEA would I technically have the license to use both? The cost is the same as TGEA outright it looks like. If that is the case that would be my best bet.Thanks.

good luck

Yes you would have the licence for both engines.... which one you use for your project will depend on your target audience (i.e end user system requirements)good luck

Start with TGE, see if you like the the way Torque does things, and then if you want to move on, get TGEA. I'm sure someone will disagree with me (and I only have TGE) but from what I can tell TGEA is effectively in an advanced beta stage, and as far as I know there are no books on it like there are for TGE to hold your hand. I would take the time to look at other engines as well (C4, etc.).

For our first commercial project my team and I have chosen TGE because TGEA is too unstable (maybe not the right word) for us.

Well I've tried both and in TGEA some features (like the colour selector) do not work for me. And when I try to name a waterblock it just crashes. This is not the case in TGE. For our first commercial project my team and I have chosen TGE because TGEA is too unstable (maybe not the right word) for us.
