RTS-SK Barracks: Feedback and opinions

I would like to hear your thoughts on the basic design of the barracks I'm working on for the RTS-SK.
The original sketch:

In blocking in the building, I wasn't very happy with the overall footprint where the building would end up being fairly large:
(I've included the upgraded building with Gun turret as part of the comparison).
It seems to me that buildings in RTS games don't usually take up too much real estate and in fact are in of themselves, more symbolic than anything else; though obviously they must be easily recognizable as to their purpose.
With this in mind, I worked up a version that was a little more compact:

Now keep in mind I haven't done any texture work on these just yet.
What are you're thoughts?
By the way, anyone interested in developing the code to get the turret working? :D
edit: Too wordy as usual :P

However, maybe if it had slightly sloping sides.. like the building in that movie "The Keep"? ..and maybe remove the turret in favor of embrasures with arrow slits? That Might remove the visual you just planted in my mind (and now I cant get it out - thanks :| ) The embrasures could also be used in capture the flag missions for FPS.
James, I still like it and think that you have done good - I think it is the smooth edges that made Novack's suggestion click - so maybe some crenelations would help?

Which is more appropriate for and RTS Game: A long sprawling building that maybe true to the original or a more compact, representative building?
Do I go with the "long" version or the more compact one?
Sorry to say Garth, this is designed with the RTS Kit in mind, not the FPS starter :)
In answer to your other question, I'll most likely have it done and posted over the weekend.

Okay. I guess I didn't get my message across very well. :) Which is more appropriate for and RTS Game: A long sprawling building that maybe true to the original or a more compact, representative building?

I'd say the longer one then. Maybe adding a "training yard" detail on the one side? Wouldn't need much more than some practice-posts, a combat pit and a low wall or fence around it that joins the main building wall...
