Porting to OpenGL

Obviously a newbie type question:
If I wanted to take a old game like Red Baron II .. that while is '3D' only outputted originally in DirectDraw , then later in Glide only 3D acceleration (with Red Baron 3D) ...... what would it take to port such a game to OpenGL ? ..
Would I need the sourse code of the game ?
I guess it would be a similar to Dynamix having patched Tribes(1) to OpenGL .
No clue here , but it is a serious question :)

Ummmmm... Tribes1 has always supported OpenGL, just have to make sure you've got the right drivers installed and have OpenGL device driver selected in Tribes1's options.
