Making our game in two semesters (newbie questions)

Hello

We have decided on using torque. On our classroom comptuers we have Torque Game Builder and Torque Game Engine 1.5.2. In Torque Game Builder clicking the Help>About... link brings up a box with a tab called Register. In the torque Game Engine 1.5.2 menu folder there is a Torque Game Engine Demo icon. These two programs are demos right? We are confused at what we have in this class to work with.

To me, it looks like we only have demos. To the other side, she thinks we have full versions to use. We are told that there isn't any GUIs for Torque, that you have to build your own. That programming with torque is about text editing the engine code. Is that really how it is?

So confused,
matthew

In TGB you simply have to enter an activation code. If you have purchased education licenses (which it sounds like you have) then that means someone at the school should be in possession of these codes. With a fresh install you will need to enter them.

In TGE 1.5.2, "Torque Game Engine Demo" represents the feature walkthrough inside of Torque. You should also get an icon in your start menu to see the FPS & Racing Starter FPS Kits, as well as the Tutorial Base. These represent examples of game starting points done in Torque for you to reference.

I'm assuming your school has purchased educational licenses of Torque products?

Thats not entirely true. Both TGB and TGE have editors that assist you in game creation. TGB has a much more developed and easy to use editor, while TGE's editor is useful though you will find the limits fairly quickly (it does include object placement, terrain editing, sky & water configuration, etc).

To understand how the TGB editor works try going through the tutorials included, the same goes for TGE.

Hi

Thank you for helping us. And thank you for mentioning the Tutorial Base tutorial. :)

Well, we don't know what version of Torqe we have. We've been told we have the full educational version, however we can't obtain a key from our instructor. So how can we determine if we have the demo or the full version?

Still a bit confused,
matthew

Well, i didint mean to blame my teacher :(

We just don't have a key so it is hard to determine what version of torque we have. If we had an educational license would there be a way to find out on the computer?

What school do you attend? I'll inquire internally about whether or not your school has purchased licenses to the engines :)

Just confirmed that your school does in fact have licenses and should have activation keys for TGB :)
