Best way to manage levels?

I'm using the Platformer Starter Kit to create a platformer game and I need a way to manage all the levels. I need it to load a file that says what the last level was then load the last level, or if its a new game load level 1 and once level 1 is finished save and start level 2, etc...

If anyone can help me that would be great!
