Boys: the last days were too calm for my taste (again).
So! here is my last contribution-idea: the launch of an rts-exclusive blog for news and announcements from us to us :) Here is the link:
RTS Kit community Blog
As I said, the idea is to centralize our news and announcements, but its possible to debate the use of the blog for any proposed idea.
Besides, I take the liberty of create a census. Why? well you can read the proper explanation on the blog (RTS Kit Community Census) but I can tell you: if we all found the time to answer 4 simple questions, will have another impressive tool for knowing ourselves as a group and that way foment more proactivity.
The pending debate, its about how to use the blog. Release the password so anyone can post? call for voluteers to post and moderate? I think we are mature enough to find the proper auto regulation (avoiding that way the mis-use of the blog) but Ill listen for any ideas.
Well, ill wait for your opinions.

I guess we donot know what to do. I am a programmer but do not know much about RTS games. So I don"t even have a starting point. I would like to get something going but have no ideal what that may be. I just plug away each day trying to get info from the forum.

I wonder if maybe we could get approval from GG to revive the RTS kit and add features, bring it up to date, etc and keep going from them. It still get sales, and if it was brought up to date and expanded, maybe it could get more sales for them. I know they don't have the resources to commit to it, and maybe Rigo's VKit could be the update they are looking for. If not, maybe we should organize as a team and figure out what all we can do and give this product a great future.

First, @Fred, your problem seems to be more procedural than technical. You must have a clear idea of what the RTS concept means, before do nothing with the RTS Kit, or you will be confused. I recommend you to see and or play some different games from this genre, and then think about what you like (and maybe what not) from them. This two articles, are excelent resources to read about this topic:
Real-time strategy (Wikipedia)
The State of the RTS
Once you've got a general idea of the concept, you have three ways to go. One is to see what tipical features of an RTS game are implemented on the Kit, and which ones are lacking. That way you'll have a good direction to work in. The second option its to work on your own game design document, and use it as an starting point, and to mark your direction of work. And last, you can read the forums and work on features or bugs that the boys have been wrote about.
@Chip, we really dont need aproval to do the things you talk about, in fact GG encourage such ideas. The thing with Rigo's VKit, its that Rigo initially wanted to SELL his code, and thats why he need some form of authorization. For the rest, I completely share your point of view and you ideas.

Here we are, three days later and only 2 more forms completed, for a total of 19. It seems that really few people walks the paths of the RTS... anyway the census keep opens, if you dont fill the form yet, do it now, there are only 4 simple questions.

Im thinking on make some analisys now. I dont feel like 22 its a sufficient number, but there are some tendencies already, that can be intresting to show.
Anyone has some opinion about it? I think the coming week Ill make the analysis.

While I wanted to count 25 people as a good number to release partial results, the census has been stoped on 24 for several days; and I want to do what I said two weeks ago, and finally publish something about this, a *thing* in which all of us participated.
Edit: forgot the link to the blog... Census Partial Results
