Vista/RTSKit graphics problem

by Christian · in RTS Starter Kit · 07/31/2007 (6:17 pm) · 8 replies

Since I brought this to my new computer with vista this problem has been hapenning. It could be something with the rtskit as well, not quite sure.

About 80% of the time when loading a game the frame rate and performance are absolutely terrible, if I go to the main menu and change the resolution it will usually fix it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry, Im not using Vista.
But I dont understand at all when its happening.
Is it when you load a mission on Torque/rts and it *hangs* at the 80% of the process, or is that it happens 8 of 10 times you load a mission?
When you go to menu to fix the situation, you change the resolution (to higher or a lower one) or you ever lower it?

It happens 8 out of 10 times. I change the resolution either way higher or lower and it will usually fix it.

Man, I dont have idea. I would check two things:
If it happens to TGE also (without the RTS kit).
And, if the computer is new, maybe you could check if the video drivers are updated (and check if they are the hardware manufacturers, and not the windows ones).

I have a feeling it is a combo of vista and the mmokit. Stock torque runs great. But the mmokit has bugs that never hapenned on my old xp computer (print screen takes a picture of the desktop not the game, if you hit the windows button and try to go back in an error pops up and of course this frame rate one). The graphics card is fine with updated drivers.

If anyone has this and figures it out that's cool. Otherwise thanks for trying.

I recently tested Orcs vs Martians on Vista and didn't notice any problems like that. OVM uses the RTSSK but not the mmokit, so there's another data point suggesting the mmokit is the culprit.

I had a few problems with 3D in Vista (probably attributed to video drivers) so I came back to XP for the time being. TGE (and any games made with it, including the MMO Kit) would not work at all in Vista for my brother. Well, it would run, but no 3D graphics would show up.

The big thing to realize with Vista is that never rely on the video drivers that come installed with it. I noticed that the ones that came with my laptop were actually older XP drivers from ATI. Torque, TGB, Constructor etc would not run at all, or the times I got them to run it never looked good. Once I realized about the drivers, I downloaded new ones from ATI's website, and it fixed everything.

I have to ask, are you using D3D option in the graphics or OpenGL? I ask this because I experience the same thing in D3D in my stock TGE build, but when I change resolution it's fine.

I have a Vista computer, but I don't run Torque on it yet, so I'm not sure if this would be a problem or not because of the differences on running from XP to Vista.
