Games for Xbox - we want clear rules

by Ivan Mandzhukov · in Torque Game Engine · 07/29/2007 (7:31 am) · 8 replies

I've read all the posts about pusblishing games for Xbox. There was no clear answer about it. Eventually , we (the indie and team publishers) want to know do we get the right to publish a game for Xbox after buying the appropriate technology from GarageGames or not? Please make it clear. Also if this question does not depend only from you (The Garage Games team) but from Microsoft too , please make a page with the steps to do to obtain the full knowledge how to make it legal publishing a game for Xbox console.

All GarageGames provides is tools with regard to consoles. You are asking us to give information on things that we don't control, and this post would be much better served in the various console forums.

In short, you are asking the wrong folks for this information--Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are the ones that control publishing on consoles, and they are the ones to ask.

There is so much information across the web about this. And sorry, but you are NOT making a console game. Nor a XBL Arcade game. It will cost you a fortune and you will not make a good enough game by yourself to create a game worthy.

Now, if you had created a solid game or franchise I would have had a different response.

@Neill:
You seem to only have negative things to say about people. I looked up every post you have made, and you really must have a dark personality.

Telling someone they are "NOT" making something, when they clearly want to makes you sound like you're a mother. Seriously though, chill out. People will like you more.

Haha, I have much experience in large communities with over 1.3 million people. I really don't care what ones opinion is toward me. As I have done nothing wrong. He should speak for himself in his posts. I let him know that I doubt he has more than $70k and the ability to make a game for the Xbox 360.

Dark personality. Cute ;)

Neill, the appropriate answer IMHO would have been:
"Contact microsoft at xxx@xxx.com. They will negotiate publishing terms on Xbox 360. AFAIK it costs atleast $70k to publish game on the network". They don't care what kind of backround you have. If you have the money, they are more than willing to follow through with you. Or atleast take your money ;)

Stephen, you also could have posted some links on information on who to approach if you have such information. :)

I understand that the forums are full of "clueless n00bs" (like me) who have not yet faced the reality of how hard it is to develop and publish games. For someone the $70k might not be a gating issue.

Infact, before finding Torque, I was in the process of trying to get funding for a develpement team and a pro engine at quarter to half a million. There's a lot of money floating around if you are convincing and convinced about how to put together a project.

BTW, I have been lurking only two days. The forums seem to be full of bickering and arguing. The topics that do not sidetrack to arguing about something irrelevant seem to be in the minority.

@Lassi: don't read the forums! ;)
Just look for the relevant info you need and voila.

I personally think browsing forums is a waste of time in development process, and I still don't understand how some can claim to be productive regarding the time they spend on these forums.

Lassi, The private forums are different.
