Torque X Release and Torque X Builder Pricing

Just to keep everyone in the loop, here are two important announcements:
First:
As many of you know, we informally announced that we were shooting for the 15th for Torque X 1.0 release in this thred (please read). Well as it happens the powers that be have decided that TGB 1.5 will be released tomorrow instead and Torque X will now go out on Monday.
Why not release Torque X tomorrow and TGB on Monday?
1) TGB is being used by a ton of schools and we want to get them 1.5 ASAP.
2) TGB has been released before. This (TGB 1.5) is just an update, so all the stuff that's previously untested with Torque X (forum links, download pages, activation, everything) is less likely to blow up. If we release Torque X on a Friday and something doesn't work on the website, people won't be around on the weekend to fix it.
Second:
I mentioned that marketting was talking about dropping the price of TXB in this thread. We got the final word today and instead of dropping the price, there will be mutual ignition grants between TGB and TXB, so buying one will grant you access to the other. In short, if you were waiting for TX release to take advantage of the price change, you can go ahead and buy it now.
EDIT: For those who might not know, Creator's Club membership is what allows you to deploy your game to the XBox 360. The Creator's Club bundle download path is still pending, but hopefully all the remaining loose ends will be tied up soon. If you are a member or plan on becoming a member, DO NOT BUY TXB - you will get it free with your Creator's Club membership!
There you have it. If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to ask.
Thanks for your patience, guys.

Yay, just bought tx pro. (tho a bit of a rant, i had to remote into a computer back in the USA, because GG's checkout server doesnt like to let us "foreigners" purchase anything from it.any chance of getting a changes.txt or something similar?

Has anyone with TGB gotten their TXB key yet?

I think they're still working on it.

Is TGB 1.5 0ut yet ?

@GG: Do you think TGB 1.5 will make it out by the weekend?
06/21/2007 (11:05 am)
I don't think TGB 1.5 is out but I'm hoping it will be soon. I don't normally get impatient about releases but I really need the t2dPath fixes in 1.5 in order to make further progress on my current project. I could just fix it in 1.1.3 but since 1.5 is so close I want to wait and move my whole project over to it.@GG: Do you think TGB 1.5 will make it out by the weekend?

And I have to start my new project with tgb 1.5 ;(

I need to clarify one question
If I get the Creator's Club membership, I will get the TXB for free with the membership as you stated in the first post of this thread.
That means I will also get TGB for free with my free TXB ?
If so how exactly should I apply for this club membership ? :)
After reading through many posts I have found that platform games data regarding TGB is outdated in the TDN forums and it will take me some time to make a game from scratch in TGB, while with platformer kit already out for Torque x, it will still reduce the overall time to create a platformer game in TXB.
This way I will at least be able to launch my game in windows format and sell it. For xbox 360, I cannot sell but I can wait for XNA professional to come out.
Moreover I have almost no one selling Mac in my city and I am not familiar with linux, so even if I use TGB I will be making game mostly for windows, so learning torque x and TXB will be more viable option in that case even though I will have to learn a bit of c#.
If a game becomes a hit I will always have a choice and money to get back to TGB and compile for mac and linux.
So if I buy the platformer kit and get club membership - will I get TGB and TXB for free ?
Please give me your opinion about it as you have mentioned in another thread that Platformer starter kit for TGB is not going to come out sooner or maybe not at all. That is leaving me in a fix.
thank you

On the topic of TGB documentation, it's even better than the Torque X and TXB docs. TDN gets outdated because it's a community wiki, however the docs that come with TGB are very good.
The learning curve is comparable. TGB is way faster if you know TorqueScript, and TX is way faster if you know C#. If you know both the learning curves will be about on-par with each other because all the 2D tools have nearly the same interface.
If you know neither TorqueScript or C#, you're going to have to learn more than a little to make a full game with TGB or Torque X, respectively.

The creator's club bundle will not get you TGB. The cross-granting of TXB and TGB are for those who purchase licenses for either. You can get a creator's club membership on your actual XBox or online at Microsoft's XNA site.On the topic of TGB documentation, it's even better than the Torque X and TXB docs. Well I know neither c# nor torque script properly. But I have to start somewhere.
I have gone through TGB tutorials, currently I am downloading Visual c# and XNA and then I will install torque x to learn the in build tutorials. This way I will be able to estimate which software I should go for first.
I really liked the tank buster game and is the only reason why I am interested in torque engine at all. I realized only today that it was made in TORQUE X AND NOT TGB. Torque x has few features more powerful then TGB like advanced lighting and shader effects.
TGB is free with TXB and viceversa (Thanks to garage games) so I can always shift gears if I want, and in the long run I will have to learn both.
Currently the only thing missing is a bridge between txb and tgb or in broader sense tgb and torque x.
If in future a plugin is created to bridge the gap then game developers will be able to create games for 4 platforms , windows, mac, linux and xbox 360 in one go without starting from scratch again and that will be a revolution..
I have no idea it is possible or not, but garage games should give it a thought.
Thank you again Thomas, I am waiting for the release of TGB 1.5 and TXB with my fingers crossed and till then diving in torque x.
I hope it comes out by tomorrow and double hope Rick has finished his work. ;)

Actually, I scripted Tank Buster in TGB in about 3 days (art by Nate Feyma.. the animated explosions took him a day or two aswell). It was then ported to a very young and simple version of Torque X. Nowadays it would probably be a 3 day project in Torque X aswell.
EDIT: The source code for Tank Buster is available for Torque X and for TGB.

I am going through the TXB and torque x.
I am really loving the idea of templates and components, it like using movie clips in Macromedia flash.
I need to ask one question
is it possible to make a full game directly in TXB without scripting anything in XNA ( except for packaging the final game) just like TGB ( by scripting directly in the .cs files) ?
If I just ignore the trouble of making a xna project first through game studio and then loading txb to work, I think its pretty easy to use.
Also I am still new to the whole thing, so what do you suggest should I first go through the torque x documentation or TXB's ?

If I buy TGB 1.3 now, will I still get TXB free ?
Obviously I can update TGB later to 1.5 but I am not sure about the TXB grant, that's why I am waiting for TGB 1.5 to release.
If yes then I can buy today and start working on the project in TXB with the platformer kit.

Enjoy your platforming :)
@Dennis - TGB 1.5 will not be out by this weekend. I cannot say when it will but I wanted to let you know it will not be this weekend so that you won't get your hopes up.

As far as I can tell they both download the same file - "torquex-1.0.5.1.msi"
Am I missing something?

Both are included in the installer and installed as well. Then you either do your 30 day trial or enter your ignition key if you've made the purchase.

Torque x is the engine, something which you cannot execute like TGB. It is run with xna.
TXB is the builder of Torque which we run and use to add graphical components into torque x, without it we will be just coding. I hope I am right about this lols :)
Simply speaking Txb is bundled with torque x engine, so when you download one you download other as well , thats why same file name.
