Character select question

I'm trying to put something into my game, and am rather out of my league here. Our team is looking for a coder, but as we've had no luck, it falls to me as project lead until we find one. I was a CS major for a while, but it's been years, and I changed majors years ago. So basically, I'm saddly gonna need a real holding my hand type answer. Anyway, the question...

Our game is gonna have two teams, you pick your team, and then you'll pick a model and skin for your character. Now the two teams are going to be visibly different, so I need to have a little GUI for picking your team, then based on that it'll give you the choices on models and skins. So, I need help making that happen. I'd appreciate whatever help I can get. Trying to get me back into programing has reminded me why I stopped a lot.
